بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
53:1وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
53:1I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:2مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
53:2That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:3وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
53:3Neither does he speak of his own will. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:4إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
53:4This is only revelation communicated, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:5عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
53:5Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:6ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
53:6Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:7وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
53:7And reached the highest pinnacle. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:8ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
53:8Then he drew near and drew closer - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:9فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
53:9Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:10فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
53:10When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:11مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
53:11His heart did not falsify what he perceived. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:12أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
53:12Will you dispute with him what he saw? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:13وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
53:13He saw Him indeed another time - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:14عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:14By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:15عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
53:15Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:16إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
53:16When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:17مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
53:17Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:18لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
53:18Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:19أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
53:19Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:20وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
53:20And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:21أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:21Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:22تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
53:22This is certainly an unjust apportioning. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:23إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
53:23These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:24أَمْ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
53:24Can ever man get what he desires? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:25فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:25To God belong the End and the Beginning. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:26۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
53:26Many as the angels be in heaven their intercession will not avail in the least without God's permission for whomsoever He please and approve. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:27إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:27Those who do not believe in the Hereafter give the angels names of females. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:28وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
53:28Yet they have no knowledge of this, and follow nothing but conjecture, but conjecture cannot replace the truth. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:29فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
53:29So you turn away from him who turns away from Our rememberance and wants nothing but the life of this world: - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:30ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
53:30This is the farthest limit of their knowledge. Surely your Lord alone knows best who has strayed away from the path and who has come to guidance. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:31وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
53:31To God belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, that He may requite those who do evil, in accordance with their deeds, and those who do good with good. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:32ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
53:32As for those who avoid the greater sins and shameful acts, except minor trespasses, your Lord's forgiveness surely has great amplitude. He is fully knowledgeable of you as He produced you from the earth, and since you were a foetus in your mother's womb. So do not assert your goodness; he is better who takes heed and preserves himself. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:33أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
53:33Have you seen him who turns his back, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:34وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
53:34Who gives but little, and is niggardly? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:35أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
53:35Has he knowledge of the Unknown that he perceives everything? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:36أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
53:36Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:37وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
53:37And of Abraham who fulfilled his trust? -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:38أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
53:38That no one who carries a burden bears another's load; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:39وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
53:39That a man receives but only that for which he strives; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:40وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
53:40That his endeavours will be judged, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:41ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
53:41And only then will he receive his recompense in full; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:42وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:42And that to your Lord is your returning; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:43وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
53:43That it is He who makes you happy and morose, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:44وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
53:44And He who ordains death and life; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:45وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:45That He created pairs, male and female, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:46مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
53:46From a drop of semen when emitted; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:47وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
53:47That the second creation is incumbent on Him; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:48وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
53:48That it is He who makes you rich and contented; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:49وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
53:49That He is the Lord of Sirius; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:50وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:50That it was He who destroyed the 'Ad of old, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:51وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
53:51And Thamud, and did not leave them, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:52وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
53:52Like the people of Noah before them, who were surely oppressors and rebellious; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:53وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
53:53And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:54فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
53:54So that they were covered over by what they were covered over. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:55فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
53:55How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:56هَـٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
53:56He who warns you is one of the warners of old. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:57أَزِفَتِ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ
53:57What is to come is imminent. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:58لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
53:58There is no one to unveil it apart from God. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:59أَفَمِنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
53:59Are you astonished at this news, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:60وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
53:60And keep laughing and do not weep, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:61وَأَنتُمْ سَـٰمِدُونَ
53:61Indulging in pleasantries? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:62فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩
53:62Bow instead in adoration before God and worship Him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
