بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

70:1سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ
70:1AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:2لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
70:2Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:3مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
70:3From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:4تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
70:4To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:5فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
70:5So persevere with becoming patience. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:6إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
70:6They surely take it to be far away, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:7وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
70:7But We see it very near. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:8يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
70:8The day the sky becomes like molten brass, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:9وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
70:9The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:10وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
70:10And no friend inquires after friend - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:11يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
70:11Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:12وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
70:12His wife and his brother, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:13وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
70:13And his family who had stood by him, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:14وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
70:14And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:15كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
70:15But never. It is pure white flame - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:16نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
70:16That would skin the scalp. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:17تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
70:17It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:18وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
70:18Who amasses and then hoards. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:19۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
70:19Surely man is greedy by nature. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:20إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
70:20If evil befalls him he is perturbed; - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:21وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
70:21If good comes to him he holds back his hand, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:22إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
70:22Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:23ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
70:23Who persevere in devotion, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:24وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
70:24In whose wealth a due share is included - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:25لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
70:25For the needy and those dispossessed, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:26وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
70:26And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:27وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
70:27And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:28إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
70:28Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:29وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
70:29And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:30إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
70:30Are free of blame, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:31فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
70:31But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:32وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
70:32And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:33وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
70:33Who uphold their testimonies, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:34وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
70:34And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:35أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
70:35They will live in gardens with honour. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:36فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
70:36What is the matter with unbelievers that they stare at you with fixed gazes and hasten towards you - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:37عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
70:37In crowds, right and left? - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:38أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
70:38Does every one of them wish to enter the garden of tranquility? - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:39كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
70:39Never so. We have created them from what they know. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:40فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
70:40So I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:41عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
70:41To bring better people than they in their place; and they will not be able to thwart Us. - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:42فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
70:42So leave them to their vain disputes and amusement till they meet their day (of reckoning) promised them, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:43يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
70:43The day when they will come out of their graves in all haste as though rushing to their altars, - Ahmed Ali (English)

70:44خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
70:44Eyes lowered, shame attending. That is the day they have been promised! - Ahmed Ali (English)
