بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:2وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2Many faces will be contrite on that day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:3عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3Labouring, wearied out, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:4تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4Burning in the scorching fire, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:5تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5Given water from the boiling spring to drink. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:6لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6They will have no food except bitter thorn, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:7لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:8وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8Many faces will be joyous on that day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:9لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9Well-pleased with their endeavour, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:10فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10In the high empyrean, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:11لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11Never hearing idle talk. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:12فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12There is a stream of running water in it; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:13فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13And within it are couches placed on high, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:14وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14Goblets set, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:15وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15Cushions arranged, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:16وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16And rich carpets spread. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:17أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:18وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18And the heavens, how it was raised high; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:19وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19And the mountains, how they were fixed; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:20وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20And the earth, how it was spread out? - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:21فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21Remind them; you are surely a reminder. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:22لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22You are not a warden over them, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:23إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23Other than him who turns his back and denies, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:24فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:25إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25To Us is surely their returning; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:26ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26Ours is surely then to reckon with them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
