بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:2لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:3خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3Degrading (some) and exalting (others); - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:4إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4When the earth is shaken up convulsively, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:5وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5The mountains bruised and crushed, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:6فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6Turned to dust, floating in the air, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:7وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7You will become three categories: - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:8فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:9وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:10وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:11أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11Who will be honoured - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:12فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12In gardens of tranquility; - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:13ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13A number of the earlier peoples, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:14وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14And a few of later ages, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:15عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15On couches wrought of gold, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:16مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16Reclining face to face. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:17يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:18بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:19لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19Unheady, uninebriating; - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:20وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20And such fruits as they fancy, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:21وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21Bird meats that they relish, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:22وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22And companions with big beautiful eyes - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:23كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23Like pearls within their shells, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:24جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24As recompense for all they had done. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:25لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:26إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:27وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:28فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:29وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:30وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30Lengthened shadows, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:31وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31Gushing water, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:32وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32And fruits numberless, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:33لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33Unending, unforbidden, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:34وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34And maidens incomparable. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:35إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:36فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36And made them virginal, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:37عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37Loving companions matched in age, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:38لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38For those of the right hand. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:39ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39A crowd of earlier generations - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:40وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:40And a crowd of the later. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:41وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:42فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:43وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43Under the shadow of thick black smoke - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:44لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44Neither cool nor agreeable. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:45إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45They were endowed with good things - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:46وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46But persisted in that greater sin, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:47وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:48أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48And so will our fathers?" - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:49قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:50لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:51ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51Then you, the erring and the deniers, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:52لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:53فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53Fill your bellies with it, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:54فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54And drink over it scalding water, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:55فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:56هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:57نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:58أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58Just consider (the semen) that you emit, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:59ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59Do you create it, or We are its creator? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:60نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:61عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:62وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:63أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63Just ponder over what you sow: - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:64ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:65لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:66إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66(And say:) "We have fallen into debt; - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:67بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:68أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68Consider the water that you drink. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:69ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:70لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:71أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:72ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:73نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:74فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:75۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75So I call the placement of the stars to witness -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:76وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76And this surely is great evidence if you can understand -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:77إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77That this is indeed the glorious Qur'an - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:78فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78(Inscribed) in the well-kept Book. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:79لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79Only they can reach it who are clean (of mind). - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:80تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80It has been revealed by the Lord of all the worlds. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:81أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81Then why do you dissimulate this Revelation? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:82وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82You live by calling it a lie. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:83فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83Then how is it that when the (dying) breath is withdrawn into the throat (and rattles), - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:84وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84And you wait for the moment (of death), - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:85وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85We are closer to him than you, even though you cannot see? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:86فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86Then why, if you are not indebted (to Us for life), - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:87تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87Can you not bring him back? (Answer) if you are truthful - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:88فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88Then, if he is one of the honoured, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:89فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89There will be peace and plenty, and gardens of tranquility for him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:90وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90If he is of those of the right hand, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:91فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91There will be the salutation by those of the right hand: "Peace on you. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:92وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92But if he is of the deniers and the errants, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:93فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93The welcome will be boiling water - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:94وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94And the roasting in Hell. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:95إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95This is indeed the ultimate truth. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:96فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96Then praise your Lord, the most supreme. - Ahmed Ali (English)
