بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

68:1نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ
68:1NUN. I CALL to witness the pen and what they inscribe, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:2مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ
68:2You are not demented by the grace of your Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:3وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ
68:3There is surely reward unending for you, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:4وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
68:4For you are verily born of sublime nature. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:5فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ
68:5So you will see, and they will realise, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:6بِأَييِّكُمُ ٱلْمَفْتُونُ
68:6Who is distracted. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:7إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
68:7Verily your Lord knows those who have gone astray from His path, and He knows those who are guided on the way. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:8فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
68:8So do not comply with those who deny: - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:9وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
68:9They only want that you should relent, so that they may come to terms. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:10وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ
68:10Do not heed a contemptible swearer, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:11هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيمٍ
68:11Or backbiter, calumniator, slanderer, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:12مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
68:12Who hinders men from (doing) good, the transgressor, the iniquitous, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:13عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
68:13Crude, and above all, mean and infamous, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:14أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
68:14Simply because he possesses wealth and children. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:15إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
68:15When you recite Our revelations to him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:16سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْخُرْطُومِ
68:16We shall brand him on the muzzle. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:17إِنَّا بَلَوْنَـٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ
68:17We have tried you as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed to gather the fruits in the morning - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:18وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ
68:18But did not add: "If God may please." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:19فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ
68:19Then a calamity from your Lord fell upon it, but they remained fast asleep. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:20فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ
68:20So by the morning it seemed as though picked clean. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:21فَتَنَادَوْا۟ مُصْبِحِينَ
68:21At daybreak they called to each other: - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:22أَنِ ٱغْدُوا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰرِمِينَ
68:22"If you want to gather the fruits, let us go early to the plantation." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:23فَٱنطَلَقُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ
68:23So they departed, talking in low voices: - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:24أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ
68:24"Let no needy person come to you within it today." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:25وَغَدَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَـٰدِرِينَ
68:25They left early in the morning bent on this purpose. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:26فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ
68:26When they saw (and did not recognise it) they said: "Surely we have lost the way. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:27بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
68:27No. In fact we have been deprived of it." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:28قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ
68:28One who was temperate among them, said: "Did I not say: 'Why don't you priase God?'" - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:29قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ
68:29"Glory to our Lord," they said; we were really in the wrong." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:30فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَـٰوَمُونَ
68:30Then they started blaming one another, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:31قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَـٰغِينَ
68:31Saying: "Alas the woe, we were iniquitous. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:32عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ
68:32Maybe our Lord will give us better than this. We turn to our Lord in supplication." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:33كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ
68:33Such is Our chastisement; and the punishment of the Hereafter will be greater, if only they knew! - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:34إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
68:34For those who fear God there are pleasure gardens with their Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:35أَفَنَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
68:35Should We treat those who submit and obey in the same way as those who are culpable? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:36مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
68:36What has come upon you that you judge in such a wise? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:37أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَـٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ
68:37Or have you a Book in which you read - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:38إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ
68:38That you can surely have whatever you choose? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:39أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَـٰنٌ عَلَيْنَا بَـٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
68:39Or have you taken a binding promise from Us which would hold till the Day of Judgement, that you will get whatever you demand? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:40سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
68:40Ask them: "Which of you is able to vouch for this?" - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:41أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ
68:41Or have they any partners? Let them bring their partners then, if what they say is true. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:42يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
68:42On the day the great calamity befalls, and they are called to bow in homage, they will not be able to do so. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:43خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَـٰلِمُونَ
68:43Lowered will be their eyes, disgrace overwhelming them. They had indeed been called to bow in homage when they were free of blame. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:44فَذَرْنِى وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
68:44So leave those who deny this Discourse to Me. We shall lead them step by step to (ruin) in a way they will not know. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:45وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ
68:45Yet I will give them respite: Surely My plan is compact. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:46أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
68:46Do you ask for any compensation from them that they are burdened with want? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:47أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
68:47Or do they have knowledge of the unknown which they copy down? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:48فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ ٱلْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ
68:48So wait with patience for the judgement of your Lord, and do not be like (onah) of the fish who called (to his Lord) when he was choked with anger. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:49لَّوْلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
68:49Had it not been for a favour from his Lord he would have been cast blame-worthy on a barren plain. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:50فَٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
68:50Then his Lord chose him and placed him among the upright. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:51وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌ
68:51But the unbelievers would like to stare you out of balance when they hear the warning, and say: "Surely he is possessed;" - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:52وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
68:52Whilst it is no more than reminder for the people of the world. - Ahmed Ali (English)
