بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
74:1يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:2قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2Arise and warn, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:3وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3Glorify your Lord, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:4وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4Purify your inner self, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:5وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5And banish all trepidation. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:6وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:7وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7And persevere in the way of your Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:8فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8For when the trumpet blows - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:9فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9It will be a day of distress, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:10عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10Dolorous for the unbelievers. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:11ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11Leave him to Me whom I created alone, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:12وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12And gave him abundant wealth - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:13وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13And sons always present by his side, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:14وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14And made things easy for them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:15ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15Yet he wants that I should give him more. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:16كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16Never. He is refractory of Our signs. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:17سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17I shall inflict on him hardship, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:18إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18For he had thought and calculated. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:19فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19May he be accursed, how he planned! - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:20ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20May be then be accursed, how he plotted! - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:21ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21Then he looked around, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:22ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22And frowned and puckered his brow, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:23ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23Then turned his back and waxed proud, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:24فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:25إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25Nothing more than the speech of a man!" - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:26سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26I will cast him into the fire of Hell. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:27وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27What do you think Hell-fire is? - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:28لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:29لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29It glows and burns the skin. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:30عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30Over it are nineteen (guards). - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:31وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:32كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:33وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33And the night when on the wane, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:34وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34The morning when it is unveiled, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:35إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:36نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36A warning for people -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:37لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:38كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38Every soul is pledged to what it does, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:39إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39Except those of the right hand - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:40فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40Sitting in the gardens, asking - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:41عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41Of evil-doers: - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:42مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42"What was it that brought you to Hell?" - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:43قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:44وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44And did not feed the needy, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:45وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:46وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:47حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:48فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:49فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49Why then do they turn away from the admonition - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:50كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50As though they were frightened asses - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:51فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51Fleeing from a lion? - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:52بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:53كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:54كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54Never so, as this is a reminder. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:55فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55Let him then who heeds remember it. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:56وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving - Ahmed Ali (English)
