بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
80:1عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
80:1HE FROWNED AND turned away, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:2أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ
80:2Because a blind man came to him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:3وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
80:3What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:4أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ
80:4Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:5أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
80:5As for him who is not in want of any thing, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:6فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
80:6You pay full attention, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:7وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
80:7Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:8وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ
80:8As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:9وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ
80:9And is also fearful (of God), - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:10فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
80:10You neglect. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:11كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ
80:11Assuredly this is a reminder - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:12فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
80:12For any one who desires to bear it in mind, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:13فِى صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ
80:13(Contained) in honoured pages, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:14مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ
80:14Exalted and holy, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:15بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍ
80:15In the hands of scribes - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:16كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍ
80:16Noble and pious. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:17قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ
80:17Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:18مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
80:18Of what substance God created him? - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:19مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
80:19From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:20ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
80:20Then made his passage easy (at birth); - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:21ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ
80:21He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:22ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
80:22Then He will raise him up again when He please. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:23كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
80:23But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:24فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
80:24Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:25أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّا
80:25We poured down rain abundantly, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:26ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّا
80:26Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:27فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا
80:27And We made corn grow, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:28وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا
80:28And grapes and herbage, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:29وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا
80:29Olives and dates, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:30وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًا
80:30Orchards thick with trees, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:31وَفَـٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا
80:31And fruits and fodder: - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:32مَّتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ
80:32A provision for you and your cattle. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:33فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
80:33But when the great calamity comes - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:34يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ
80:34Man will fly from his brother, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:35وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
80:35Mother and father, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:36وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
80:36As well as his wife and children. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:37لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ
80:37Each man will have enough cares that day. - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:38وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ
80:38Many faces will that day be bright, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:39ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ
80:39Laughing and full of joy, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:40وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ
80:40And many will be dust-begrimed, - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:41تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
80:41Covered with the blackness (of shame): - Ahmed Ali (English)
80:42أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ
80:42They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. - Ahmed Ali (English)
