Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
50:1
قٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْمَجِيدِ
50:1
Qaf. By the glorious Koran! - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:2
بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ
50:2
Nay, but they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them; and the unbelievers say, 'This is a marvellous thing! - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:3
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌ
50:3
What, when we are dead and become dust? That is a far returning!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:4
قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ
50:4
We know what the earth diminishes of them; with Us is a book recording. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:5
بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ
50:5
Nay, but they cried lies to the truth when it came to them, and so they are in a case confused. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:6
أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ
50:6
What, have they not beheld heaven above them, how We have built it, and decked it out fair, and it has no cracks? - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:7
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ
50:7
And the earth -- We stretched it forth, and cast on it firm mountains, and We caused to grow therein of every joyous kind - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:8
تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ
50:8
for an insight and a reminder to every penitent servant. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:9
وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً مُّبَـٰرَكًا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَحَبَّ ٱلْحَصِيدِ
50:9
And We sent down out of heaven water blessed, and caused to grow thereby gardens and grain of harvest - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:10
وَٱلنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَـٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيدٌ
50:10
and tall palm-trees with spathes compact, - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:11
رِّزْقًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخُرُوجُ
50:11
a provision for the servants, and thereby We revived a land that was dead. Even so is the coming forth. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:12
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ
50:12
Cried lies before them the people of Noah and the men of Er-Rass, and Thamood, - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:13
وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍ
50:13
and Ad and Pharaoh, the brothers of Lot, - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:14
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ ۚ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ
50:14
the men of the Thicket, the people of Tubba'. Every one cried lies to the Messengers, and My threat came true. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:15
أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلْخَلْقِ ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍ مِّنْ خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ
50:15
What, were We wearied by the first creation? No indeed; but they are in uncertainty as to the new creation. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:16
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ
50:16
We indeed created man; and We know what his soul whispers within him, and We are nearer to him than the jugular vein. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:17
إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌ
50:17
When the two angels meet together, sitting one on the right, and one on the left, - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:18
مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ
50:18
not a word he utters, but by him is an observer ready. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:19
وَجَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ
50:19
And death's agony comes in truth; that is what thou wast shunning! - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:20
وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْوَعِيدِ
50:20
And the Trumpet shall be blown; that is the Day of the Threat. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:21
وَجَآءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّعَهَا سَآئِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ
50:21
And every soul shall come, and with it a driver and a witness. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:22
لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ
50:22
'Thou wast heedless of this; therefore We have now removed from thee thy covering, and so thy sight today is piercing.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:23
وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَىَّ عَتِيدٌ
50:23
And his comrade shall say, 'This is what I have, made ready.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:24
أَلْقِيَا فِى جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ
50:24
'Cast, you twain, into Gehenna every froward unbeliever, - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:25
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِيبٍ
50:25
every hinderer of the good, transgressor, disquieter, - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:26
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِيدِ
50:26
who set up with God another god; therefore, you twain, cast him into the terrible chastisement.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:27
۞ قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ
50:27
And his comrade shall say, 'Our Lord, I made him not insolent, but he was in far error.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:28
قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَىَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِٱلْوَعِيدِ
50:28
He shall say, 'Dispute not before Me! For I sent you beforehand -- the threat. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:29
مَا يُبَدَّلُ ٱلْقَوْلُ لَدَىَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ
50:29
The Word is not changed with Me; I wrong not My servants.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:30
يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدٍ
50:30
Upon the day We shall say unto Gehenna, 'Art thou filled?' And it shall say, 'Are there any more to come?' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:31
وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ
50:31
And Paradise shall be brought forward to the godfearing, not afar: - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:32
هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ
50:32
'This is that you were promised; it is for every mindful penitent.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:33
مَّنْ خَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ
50:33
Whosoever fears the All-merciful in the Unseen, and comes with a penitent heart: - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:34
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُلُودِ
50:34
'Enter it in peace! This is the Day of Eternity.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:35
لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ
50:35
Therein they shall have whatever they will; and with Us there is yet more. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:36
وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ هَلْ مِن مَّحِيصٍ
50:36
How many a generation We destroyed before them that was stronger in valour than they, then they searched about in the land; was there any asylum? - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:37
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ
50:37
Surely in that there is a reminder to him who has a heart, or will give ear with a present mind. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:38
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ
50:38
We created the heavens and the earth, and what between them is, in six days, and no weariness touched Us. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:39
فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ ٱلْغُرُوبِ
50:39
So be thou patient under what they say, and proclaim thy Lord's praise before the rising of the sun, and before its setting, - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:40
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَأَدْبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ
50:40
and proclaim thy Lord's praise in the night, and at the ends of the prostrations. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:41
وَٱسْتَمِعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ ٱلْمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ
50:41
And listen thou for the day when the caller shall call from a near place. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:42
يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ
50:42
On the day they hear the Cry in truth, that is the day of coming forth. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:43
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْنَا ٱلْمَصِيرُ
50:43
It is We who give life, and make to die, and to Us is the homecoming. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:44
يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ
50:44
Upon the day when the earth is split asunder from about them as they hasten forth; that is a mustering easy for Us. - A. J. Arberry (English)
50:45
نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِجَبَّارٍ ۖ فَذَكِّرْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ
50:45
We know very well what they say; thou art not a tyrant over them. Therefore remind by the Koran him who fears My threat. - A. J. Arberry (English)
