Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
44:1
حمٓ
44:1

44:2
وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ
44:2
By the Clear Book. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:3
إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ
44:3
We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:4
فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ
44:4
therein every wise bidding - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:5
أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ
44:5
determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:6
رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
44:6
as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:7
رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ
44:7
Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:8
لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
44:8
There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:9
بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ
44:9
Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:10
فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
44:10
So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:11
يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
44:11
covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:12
رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ
44:12
'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:13
أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ
44:13
How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:14
ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ
44:14
then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:15
إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ
44:15
'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:16
يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ
44:16
Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:17
۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ
44:17
Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:18
أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
44:18
saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:19
وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
44:19
and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:20
وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ
44:20
and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:21
وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ
44:21
'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:22
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ
44:22
And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:23
فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ
44:23
'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:24
وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ
44:24
And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:25
كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
44:25
They left how many gardens and fountains, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:26
وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ
44:26
sown fields, and how noble a station, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:27
وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَ
44:27
and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:28
كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ
44:28
Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:29
فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ
44:29
Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:30
وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ
44:30
and We delivered the Children of Israel from the humbling chastisement, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:31
مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ
44:31
from Pharaoh; surely he was a high One, of the prodigals; - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:32
وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
44:32
and We chose them, out of a knowledge, above all beings, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:33
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ
44:33
and gave them signs wherein there was a manifest trial. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:34
إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ
44:34
These men do say, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:35
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ
44:35
'There is nothing but our first death; we shall not be revived. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:36
فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
44:36
Bring us our fathers, if you speak truly!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:37
أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ
44:37
Are they better, or the people of Tubba' and those before them whom We destroyed? They were surely sinners. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:38
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ
44:38
We created not the heavens and earth, and all that between them is, in play; - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:39
مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
44:39
We created them not save in truth; but most of them know it not. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:40
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
44:40
Surely the Day of Decision shall be their appointed time, all together, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:41
يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
44:41
the day a master shall avail nothing a client, and they shall not be helped, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:42
إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
44:42
save him upon whom God has mercy; He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:43
إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ
44:43
Lo, the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:44
طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ
44:44
is the food of the guilty, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:45
كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ
44:45
like molten copper, bubbling in the belly - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:46
كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
44:46
as boiling water bubbles. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:47
خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
44:47
'Take him, and thrust him into the midst of Hell, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:48
ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
44:48
then pour over his head the chastisement of boiling water!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:49
ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ
44:49
'Taste! Surely thou art the mighty, the noble. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:50
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ
44:50
This is that concerning which you were doubting.' - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:51
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ
44:51
Surely the godfearing shall be in a station secure - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:52
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
44:52
among gardens and fountains, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:53
يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
44:53
robed in silk and brocade, set face to face. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:54
كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ
44:54
Even so; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris, - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:55
يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ
44:55
therein calling for every fruit, secure. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:56
لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
44:56
They shall not taste therein of death, save the first death, And He shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell -- - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:57
فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
44:57
a bounty from thy Lord; that is the mighty triumph. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:58
فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
44:58
Now We have made it easy by thy tongue, that haply they may remember. - A. J. Arberry (English)
44:59
فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ
44:59
So be on the watch; they too are on the watch. - A. J. Arberry (English)
