بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

44:1 حمٓ
44:1 Ha'. Mim. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:2 وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ
44:2 By the Clear Book. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:3 إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ
44:3 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:4 فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ
44:4 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:5 أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ
44:5 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:6 رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
44:6 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:7 رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ
44:7 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:8 لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
44:8 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:9 بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ
44:9 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:10 فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
44:10 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:11 يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
44:11 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:12 رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ
44:12 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:13 أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ
44:13 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:14 ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ
44:14 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:15 إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ
44:15 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:16 يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ
44:16 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:17 ۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ
44:17 Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:18 أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
44:18 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:19 وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ
44:19 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:20 وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ
44:20 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:21 وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ
44:21 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:22 فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ
44:22 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:23 فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ
44:23 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:24 وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ
44:24 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:25 كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
44:25 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:26 وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ
44:26 and sown fields and splendid mansions, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:27 وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَ
44:27 and the life of ease in which they took delight! - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:28 كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ
44:28 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:29 فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ
44:29 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:30 وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ
44:30 Thus did We deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:31 مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ
44:31 from Pharaoh who was most prominent among the prodigals. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:32 وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
44:32 We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:33 وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ
44:33 and bestowed upon them the Signs wherein lay an evident test for them. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:34 إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ
44:34 Indeed these people say: - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:35 إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ
44:35 “This is our first and only death, and we shall never be raised again. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:36 فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
44:36 Bring back to us our fathers if you are truthful.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:37 أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ
44:37 Are these better or the people of Tubba and those who went before them? We destroyed them for they were a criminal people. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:38 وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ
44:38 It was not in idle sport that We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:39 مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
44:39 We did not create them except in Truth. But most of them do not know. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:40 إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
44:40 The Day of Final Decision is the appointed time for all; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:41 يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
44:41 the Day when a friend shall be of no avail to his friend nor shall they be helped, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:42 إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
44:42 except those to whom Allah shows mercy. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:43 إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ
44:43 The tree of al-Zaqqum - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:44 طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ
44:44 shall be the food of the sinful. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:45 كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ
44:45 Like dregs of oil, it will boil in their bellies - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:46 كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
44:46 like boiling water. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:47 خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
44:47 “Seize him and drag him to the middle of the Blazing Fire, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:48 ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
44:48 then pour boiling water over his head as chastisement. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:49 ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ
44:49 Taste this, you are a person mighty and noble! - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:50 إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ
44:50 This is what you used to doubt.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:51 إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ
44:51 Verily the God-fearing shall be in a secure place - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:52 فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
44:52 amidst gardens and springs. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:53 يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
44:53 Attired in silk and brocade, they shall be arrayed face to face. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:54 كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ
44:54 Thus shall it be: and We shall espouse them to fair, wide-eyed maidens. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:55 يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ
44:55 While resting in security, they shall call for all kinds of fruit. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:56 لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ
44:56 They shall not taste death except the death in this world. And Allah will save them from the chastisement of Hell - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:57 فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
44:57 as a favour from your Lord. That is the great triumph. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:58 فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
44:58 (O Prophet), We have made this Book easy in your tongue so that they may take heed. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

44:59 فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ
44:59 Wait, then; they too are waiting. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
