بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
91:1
وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا
91:1
By the sun and his morning brightness - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:2
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا
91:2
and by the moon when she follows him, - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:3
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا
91:3
and by the day when it displays him - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا
91:4
and by the night when it enshrouds him! - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:5
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا
91:5
By the heaven and That which built it - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:6
وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا
91:6
and by the earth and That which extended it! - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:7
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا
91:7
By the soul, and That which shaped it - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:8
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا
91:8
and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:9
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا
91:9
Prosperous is he who purifies it, - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:10
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا
91:10
and failed has he who seduces it. - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:11
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ
91:11
Thamood cried lies in their insolence - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:12
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا
91:12
when the most wretched of them uprose, - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:13
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا
91:13
then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:14
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا
91:14
But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: - A. J. Arberry (English)
91:15
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا
91:15
and He fears not the issue thereof. - A. J. Arberry (English)
