بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
91:1
وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا
91:1
By the sun and its heat and brightness, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:2
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا
91:2
and by the moon as it follows it; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:3
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا
91:3
and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا
91:4
and by the night as it envelopes the sun; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:5
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا
91:5
and by the sky and by Him Who made it; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:6
وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا
91:6
and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:7
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا
91:7
and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:8
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا
91:8
and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:9
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا
91:9
He who purifies it will prosper, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:10
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا
91:10
and he who suppresses it will be ruined. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:11
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ
91:11
In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:12
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا
91:12
when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:13
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا
91:13
Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
91:14
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا
91:14
But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا
91:15
He has no fear of its sequel. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
