15 Al-Ĥijr ٱلْحِجْر

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

15:1 الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
15:1 Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the Verses of the Book; a Quran that makes things clear. - Talal Itani (English)

15:2 رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ
15:2 Perhaps those who disbelieve would like to become Muslims. - Talal Itani (English)

15:3 ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
15:3 Leave them to eat, and enjoy, and be lulled by hope. They will find out. - Talal Itani (English)

15:4 وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ
15:4 We have never destroyed a town unless it had a set time. - Talal Itani (English)

15:5 مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ
15:5 No nation can bring its time forward, nor can they delay it. - Talal Itani (English)

15:6 وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ
15:6 And they said, “O you who received the message, you are insane.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:7 لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
15:7 Why do you not bring us the angels, if you are truthful?” - Talal Itani (English)

15:8 مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ
15:8 We do not send the angels down except with reason, and they will not be held back. - Talal Itani (English)

15:9 إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ
15:9 Surely We revealed the Message, and We will surely preserve it. - Talal Itani (English)

15:10 وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
15:10 We sent others before you, to the former communities. - Talal Itani (English)

15:11 وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
15:11 But no messenger came to them, but they ridiculed him. - Talal Itani (English)

15:12 كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
15:12 Thus We slip it into the hearts of the guilty. - Talal Itani (English)

15:13 لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
15:13 They do not believe in it, though the ways of the ancients have passed away. - Talal Itani (English)

15:14 وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ
15:14 Even if We opened for them a gateway into the sky, and they began to ascend through it. - Talal Itani (English)

15:15 لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَـٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ
15:15 They would still say, “Our eyes are hallucinating; in fact, we are people bewitched.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:16 وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ
15:16 We placed constellations in the sky, and made them beautiful to the beholders. - Talal Itani (English)

15:17 وَحَفِظْنَـٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ
15:17 And We guarded them from every outcast devil. - Talal Itani (English)

15:18 إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ
15:18 Except one who steals a hearing, and is followed by a visible projectile. - Talal Itani (English)

15:19 وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ
15:19 We spread the earth, and placed stabilizers in it, and in it We grew all things in proper measure. - Talal Itani (English)

15:20 وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَـٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ
15:20 And in it We created livelihoods for you, and for those for whom you are not the providers. - Talal Itani (English)

15:21 وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
15:21 There is not a thing but with Us are its stores, and We send it down only in precise measure. - Talal Itani (English)

15:22 وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَـٰزِنِينَ
15:22 We send the fertilizing winds; and send down water from the sky, and give it to you to drink, and you are not the ones who store it. - Talal Itani (English)

15:23 وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ
15:23 It is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritors. - Talal Itani (English)

15:24 وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ
15:24 And We know those of you who go forward, and We know those who lag behind. - Talal Itani (English)

15:25 وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ
15:25 It is your Lord who will gather them together. He is the Wise, the Knowing. - Talal Itani (English)

15:26 وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
15:26 We created the human being from clay, from molded mud. - Talal Itani (English)

15:27 وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ
15:27 And the jinn We created before, from piercing fire. - Talal Itani (English)

15:28 وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَـٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
15:28 Your Lord said to the angels, “I am creating a human being from clay, from molded mud.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:29 فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِينَ
15:29 “When I have formed him, and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down prostrating before him.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:30 فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ
15:30 So the angels prostrated themselves, all together. - Talal Itani (English)

15:31 إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ
15:31 Except for Satan. He refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. - Talal Itani (English)

15:32 قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ
15:32 He said, “O Satan, what kept you from being among those who prostrated themselves?” - Talal Itani (English)

15:33 قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ
15:33 He said, “I am not about to prostrate myself before a human being, whom You created from clay, from molded mud.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:34 قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ
15:34 He said, “Then get out of here, for you are an outcast”. - Talal Itani (English)

15:35 وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
15:35 “And the curse will be upon you until the Day of Judgment.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:36 قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
15:36 He said, “My Lord, reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:37 قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ
15:37 He said, “You are of those reprieved.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:38 إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ
15:38 “Until the Day of the time appointed.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:39 قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
15:39 He said, “My Lord, since You have lured me away, I will glamorize for them on earth, and I will lure them all away.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:40 إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ
15:40 “Except for Your sincere servants among them.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:41 قَالَ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ
15:41 He said, “This is a right way with Me.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:42 إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ
15:42 “Over My servants you have no authority, except for the sinners who follow you.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:43 وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
15:43 And Hell is the meeting-place for them all. - Talal Itani (English)

15:44 لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ
15:44 “It has seven doors; for each door is an assigned class.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:45 إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
15:45 But the righteous will be in gardens with springs. - Talal Itani (English)

15:46 ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ
15:46 “Enter it in peace and security.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:47 وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
15:47 And We will remove all ill-feelings from their hearts—brothers and sisters, on couches facing one another. - Talal Itani (English)

15:48 لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ
15:48 No fatigue will ever touch them therein, nor will they be asked to leave it. - Talal Itani (English)

15:49 ۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
15:49 Inform My servants that I am the Forgiver, the Merciful. - Talal Itani (English)

15:50 وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ
15:50 And that My punishment is the painful punishment. - Talal Itani (English)

15:51 وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
15:51 And inform them of the guests of Abraham. - Talal Itani (English)

15:52 إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ
15:52 When they entered upon him, and said, “Peace.” He said, “We are wary of you.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:53 قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ
15:53 They said, “Do not fear; we bring you good news of a boy endowed with knowledge.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:54 قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ
15:54 He said, “Do you bring me good news, when old age has overtaken me? What good news do you bring?” - Talal Itani (English)

15:55 قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَ
15:55 They said, “We bring you good news in truth, so do not despair.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:56 قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ
15:56 He said, “And who despairs of his Lord’s mercy but the lost?” - Talal Itani (English)

15:57 قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
15:57 He said, “So what is your business, O envoys?” - Talal Itani (English)

15:58 قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ
15:58 They said, “We were sent to a sinful people.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:59 إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
15:59 “Except for the family of Lot; we will save them all.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:60 إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ
15:60 “Except for his wife.” We have determined that she will be of those who lag behind. - Talal Itani (English)

15:61 فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
15:61 And when the envoys came to the family of Lot. - Talal Itani (English)

15:62 قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ
15:62 He said, “You are a people unknown to me.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:63 قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَـٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ
15:63 They said, “We bring you what they have doubts about.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:64 وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ
15:64 “We bring you the truth, and we are truthful.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:65 فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ
15:65 “Travel with your family at the dead of the night, and follow up behind them, and let none of you look back, and proceed as commanded.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:66 وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ
15:66 And We informed him of Our decree: the last remnant of these will be uprooted by early morning. - Talal Itani (English)

15:67 وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ
15:67 And the people of the town came joyfully. - Talal Itani (English)

15:68 قَالَ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ
15:68 He said, “These are my guests, so do not embarrass me.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:69 وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ
15:69 “And fear God, and do not disgrace me.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:70 قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
15:70 They said, “Did we not forbid you from strangers?” - Talal Itani (English)

15:71 قَالَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَـٰعِلِينَ
15:71 He said, “These are my daughters, if you must.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:72 لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
15:72 By your life, they were blundering in their drunkenness. - Talal Itani (English)

15:73 فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ
15:73 So the Blast struck them at sunrise. - Talal Itani (English)

15:74 فَجَعَلْنَا عَـٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ
15:74 And We turned it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of baked clay. - Talal Itani (English)

15:75 إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ
15:75 Surely in that are lessons for those who read signs. - Talal Itani (English)

15:76 وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ
15:76 And it is on an existing road. - Talal Itani (English)

15:77 إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
15:77 Surely in that is a sign for the believers. - Talal Itani (English)

15:78 وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَـٰلِمِينَ
15:78 The people of the Woods were also wrongdoers. - Talal Itani (English)

15:79 فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ
15:79 So We took revenge upon them. Both are clearly documented. - Talal Itani (English)

15:80 وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
15:80 The people of the Rock also rejected the messengers. - Talal Itani (English)

15:81 وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ
15:81 We gave them Our revelations, but they turned away from them. - Talal Itani (English)

15:82 وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ
15:82 They used to carve homes in the mountains, feeling secure. - Talal Itani (English)

15:83 فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ
15:83 But the Blast struck them in the morning. - Talal Itani (English)

15:84 فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
15:84 All they had acquired was of no avail to them. - Talal Itani (English)

15:85 وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ
15:85 We did not create the heavens and the earth, and what lies between them, except with truth. The Hour is coming, so forgive with gracious forgiveness. - Talal Itani (English)

15:86 إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
15:86 Your Lord is the All-Knowing Creator. - Talal Itani (English)

15:87 وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ
15:87 We have given you seven of the pairs, and the Grand Quran. - Talal Itani (English)

15:88 لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
15:88 Do not extend your eyes towards what We have bestowed on some couples of them to enjoy, and do not grieve over them, and lower your wing to the believers. - Talal Itani (English)

15:89 وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ
15:89 And say, “I am the clear warner.” - Talal Itani (English)

15:90 كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ
15:90 Just as We sent down to the separatists. - Talal Itani (English)

15:91 ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ
15:91 Those who made the Quran obsolete. - Talal Itani (English)

15:92 فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
15:92 By your Lord, we will question them all. - Talal Itani (English)

15:93 عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
15:93 About what they used to do. - Talal Itani (English)

15:94 فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
15:94 So proclaim openly what you are commanded, and turn away from the polytheists. - Talal Itani (English)

15:95 إِنَّا كَفَيْنَـٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ
15:95 We are enough for you against the mockers. - Talal Itani (English)

15:96 ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
15:96 Those who set up another god with God. They will come to know. - Talal Itani (English)

15:97 وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ
