بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
85:1
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ
85:1
I CALL TO witness the sky (bespangled) with the signs of the Zodiac, - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:2
وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ
85:2
And the promised day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:3
وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ
85:3
And the witness and the witnessed, - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:4
قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ
85:4
That accursed are the men of the trench - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:5
ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ
85:5
Full of fire fed by faggots, - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:6
إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ
85:6
As they sat around it - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:7
وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ
85:7
Witnessing what they had done to the believers! - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:8
وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ
85:8
They had no other reason for hating them except that they believed in God the mighty, worthy of praise, - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:9
ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ
85:9
Whose kingdom spreads over the heavens and the earth. God is witness over everything. - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:10
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ
85:10
Surely for those who persecute believers, men and women, and do not repent afterwards, is the punishment of Hell, and the punishment of burning. - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:11
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
85:11
Surely for those who believe and do the right are gardens with rivers running by. That is the greatest success. - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:12
إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ
85:12
The grip of your Lord is severe indeed! - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:13
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ
85:13
It is verily He who initiates and repeats. - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:14
وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ
85:14
He is the forgiving and the loving, - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:15
ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ
85:15
The Lord of the glorious Throne, - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:16
فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ
85:16
Who does as He pleases. - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:17
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ
85:17
Has the story of the hordes - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:18
فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ
85:18
Of Pharaoh and Thamud come to you? - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:19
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ
85:19
Yet the infidels persist in denial. - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:20
وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ
85:20
But God surrounds them from all sides. - Ahmed Ali (English)
85:21
بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ
85:21
This is indeed the glorious Qur'an - Ahmed Ali (English)

فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ
85:22
(Preserved) on the guarded tablet. - Ahmed Ali (English)
