بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
84:1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ
84:1
WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:2
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
84:2
And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:3
وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
84:3
When the earth is stretched out taut - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:4
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
84:4
And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:5
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
84:5
And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:6
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ
84:6
O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:7
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ
84:7
And he who is given his ledger in his right hand - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:8
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
84:8
Will have an easy reckoning, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:9
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا
84:9
And will return to his people full of joy. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:10
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ
84:10
But he who is given his ledger from behind his back - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:11
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا
84:11
Will pray for death, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:12
وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا
84:12
But will be roasted in the fire. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:13
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا
84:13
He lived rejoicing among his people, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:14
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ
84:14
Never thinking he will return. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:15
بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا
84:15
Why not? His Lord was always watching him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:16
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ
84:16
So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:17
وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
84:17
And the night and all it gathers, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:18
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ
84:18
And the moon when at the full, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:19
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ
84:19
That you will climb from stage to stage. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:20
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
84:20
So, wherefore do they not believe? - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:21
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩
84:21
And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:22
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ
84:22
In fact the unbelievers disavow. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:23
وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
84:23
But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:24
فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
84:24
So give them news of painful punishment, - Ahmed Ali (English)
84:25
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ
84:25
Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. - Ahmed Ali (English)
