بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
54:1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ
54:1
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:2
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ
54:2
But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:3
And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:4
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
54:4
Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:5
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:5
Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ
54:6
So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:7
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ
54:7
They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:8
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ
54:8
They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe." - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:9
۞ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ
54:9
The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ
54:10
So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:11
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ
54:11
And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:12
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ
54:12
And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:13
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ
54:13
But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:14
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
54:14
Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:15
And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:16
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:16
How was then My punishment and My commination! - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:17
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:17
Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:18
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:18
The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:19
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ
54:19
We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ
54:20
Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:21
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:21
How was then My punishment and My commination! - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:22
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:22
Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:23
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:23
The Thamud rejected the warnings, - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:24
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:24
And said: "Should we follow only one man among us? In that case we shall he in error and insane. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:25
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ
54:25
Was he the one of all of us to have been given the exposition? He is surely an impudent liar." - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:26
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ
54:26
"Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:27
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ
54:27
We shall send the she-camel to try them. So watch them, and be constant. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:28
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ
54:28
Tell them that the water is to be apportioned between them (and her); and every turn of drinking will be fixed (for each)." - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:29
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
54:29
But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:30
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:30
How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:31
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ
54:31
We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:32
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:32
Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:33
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:33
The people of Lot rejected the warnings. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ
54:34
We sent a stone-hurtling storm against them, except the family of Lot whom We saved in the early hours of the morning - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:35
نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ
54:35
As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:36
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
54:36
He had warned them of Our might, but they passed over the warnings. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:37
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:37
They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:38
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
54:38
And early in the morning the decreed punishment came upon them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ
54:39
So now taste My punishment and My commination! - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:40
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:40
Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:41
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
54:41
The warnings came to the people of Pharaoh. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
54:42
They rejected each one of Our signs. So We seized them with the grip of one mighty and powerful. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:43
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:43
Are the unbelievers among you any better than they? Or is there immunity for you in the Scriptures? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:44
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ
54:44
Or do they say: "We are a well-accoutred army?" - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:45
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
54:45
The army will be routed and put to flight. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
54:46
Surely the Hour will be the moment of their promise, and that moment will be calamitous and distressing. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:47
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ
54:47
Surely the sinners are misguided and insane. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:48
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
54:48
On that Day they will be dragged into the fire faces foremost, (and told:) "Taste the feel of Hell." - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ
54:49
We have indeed created all things by measure; - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:50
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ
54:50
And Our command is but one (word) swift as the winking of an eye. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
54:51
We have destroyed the likes of you in the past: So is there any one who will be warned? - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:52
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ
54:52
All things they do are (recorded) in the books; - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ
54:53
All things small or great have been written down. - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:54
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ
54:54
Surely those who fear God and follow the straight path will be amidst gardens and light, - Ahmed Ali (English)
54:55
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ
54:55
At the still centre in the proximity of the King all-powerful. - Ahmed Ali (English)
