Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
53:1
وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
53:1
By the Star when it setteth, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:2
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
53:2
Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:3
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
53:3
Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:4
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
53:4
It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:5
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
53:5
Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:6
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
53:6
One vigorous; and he grew clear to view - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:7
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
53:7
When he was on the uppermost horizon. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:8
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
53:8
Then he drew nigh and came down - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:9
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
53:9
Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:10
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
53:10
And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:11
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
53:11
The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:12
أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
53:12
Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:13
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
53:13
And verily he saw him yet another time - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:14
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:14
By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:15
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
53:15
Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:16
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
53:16
When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:17
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
53:17
The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:18
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
53:18
Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:19
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
53:19
Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:20
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
53:20
And Manat, the third, the other? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:21
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:21
Are yours the males and His the females? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:22
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
53:22
That indeed were an unfair division! - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:23
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
53:23
They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:24
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
53:24
Or shall man have what he coveteth? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:25
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:25
But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:26
۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
53:26
And how many angels are in the heavens whose intercession availeth naught save after Allah giveth leave to whom He chooseth and accepteth. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:27
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:27
Lo! it is those who disbelieve in the Hereafter who name the angels with the names of females. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:28
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
53:28
And they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and lo! a guess can never take the place of the truth. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:29
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
53:29
Then withdraw (O Muhammad) from him who fleeth from Our remembrance and desireth but the life of the world. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:30
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
53:30
Such is their sum of knowledge. Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth, and He is Best Aware of him whom goeth right. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:31
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
53:31
And unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil with that which they have done, and reward those who do good with goodness. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:32
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
53:32
Those who avoid enormities of sin and abominations, save the unwilled offences - (for them) lo! thy Lord is of vast mercy. He is Best Aware of you (from the time) when He created you from the earth, and when ye were hidden in the bellies of your mothers. Therefor ascribe not purity unto yourselves. 53:33
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
53:33
Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:34
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
53:34
And gave a little, then was grudging? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:35
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
53:35
Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:36
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
53:36
Or hath he not had news of what is in the books of Moses - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:37
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
53:37
And Abraham who paid his debt: - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:38
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
53:38
That no laden one shall bear another's load, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:39
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
53:39
And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:40
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
53:40
And that his effort will be seen. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:41
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
53:41
And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:42
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:42
And that thy Lord, He is the goal; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:43
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
53:43
And that He it is who maketh laugh, and maketh weep, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:44
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
53:44
And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:45
And that He createth the two spouses, the male and the female, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:46
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
53:46
From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
53:47
And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
53:48
And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
53:49
And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:50
And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:51
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
53:51
And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:52
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
53:52
And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:53
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
53:53
And Al-Mu'tafikah He destroyed - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
53:54
So that there covered them that which did cover. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:55
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
53:55
Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:56
هَـٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
53:56
This is a warner of the warners of old. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ
53:57
The threatened Hour is nigh. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:58
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
53:58
None beside Allah can disclose it. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:59
أَفَمِنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
53:59
Marvel ye then at this statement, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:60
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
53:60
And laugh and not weep, - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:61
وَأَنتُمْ سَـٰمِدُونَ
53:61
While ye amuse yourselves? - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
53:62
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩
53:62
Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. - Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall (English)
