بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
53:1
وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
53:1
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:2
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
53:2
That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:3
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
53:3
Neither does he speak of his own will. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:4
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
53:4
This is only revelation communicated, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:5
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
53:5
Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:6
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
53:6
Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:7
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
53:7
And reached the highest pinnacle. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:8
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
53:8
Then he drew near and drew closer - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:9
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
53:9
Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:10
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
53:10
When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:11
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
53:11
His heart did not falsify what he perceived. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:12
أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
53:12
Will you dispute with him what he saw? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:13
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
53:13
He saw Him indeed another time - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:14
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:14
By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:15
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
53:15
Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:16
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
53:16
When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:17
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
53:17
Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:18
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
53:18
Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:19
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
53:19
Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:20
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
53:20
And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:21
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:21
Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:22
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
53:22
This is certainly an unjust apportioning. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:23
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
53:23
These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:24
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
53:24
Can ever man get what he desires? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:25
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:25
To God belong the End and the Beginning. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:26
۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
53:26
Many as the angels be in heaven their intercession will not avail in the least without God's permission for whomsoever He please and approve. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:27
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:27
Those who do not believe in the Hereafter give the angels names of females. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:28
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
53:28
Yet they have no knowledge of this, and follow nothing but conjecture, but conjecture cannot replace the truth. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:29
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
53:29
So you turn away from him who turns away from Our rememberance and wants nothing but the life of this world: - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:30
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
53:30
This is the farthest limit of their knowledge. Surely your Lord alone knows best who has strayed away from the path and who has come to guidance. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:31
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
53:31
To God belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, that He may requite those who do evil, in accordance with their deeds, and those who do good with good. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:32
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
53:32
As for those who avoid the greater sins and shameful acts, except minor trespasses, your Lord's forgiveness surely has great amplitude. He is fully knowledgeable of you as He produced you from the earth, and since you were a foetus in your mother's womb. So do not assert your goodness; he is better who takes heed and preserves himself. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:33
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
53:33
Have you seen him who turns his back, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:34
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
53:34
Who gives but little, and is niggardly? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:35
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
53:35
Has he knowledge of the Unknown that he perceives everything? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:36
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
53:36
Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:37
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
53:37
And of Abraham who fulfilled his trust? -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:38
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
53:38
That no one who carries a burden bears another's load; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:39
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
53:39
That a man receives but only that for which he strives; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:40
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
53:40
That his endeavours will be judged, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:41
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
53:41
And only then will he receive his recompense in full; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:42
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:42
And that to your Lord is your returning; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:43
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
53:43
That it is He who makes you happy and morose, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:44
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
53:44
And He who ordains death and life; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:45
That He created pairs, male and female, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:46
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
53:46
From a drop of semen when emitted; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
53:47
That the second creation is incumbent on Him; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
53:48
That it is He who makes you rich and contented; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
53:49
That He is the Lord of Sirius; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:50
That it was He who destroyed the 'Ad of old, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:51
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
53:51
And Thamud, and did not leave them, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:52
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
53:52
Like the people of Noah before them, who were surely oppressors and rebellious; - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:53
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
53:53
And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
53:54
So that they were covered over by what they were covered over. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:55
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
53:55
How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:56
هَـٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
53:56
He who warns you is one of the warners of old. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ
53:57
What is to come is imminent. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:58
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
53:58
There is no one to unveil it apart from God. - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:59
أَفَمِنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
53:59
Are you astonished at this news, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:60
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
53:60
And keep laughing and do not weep, - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:61
وَأَنتُمْ سَـٰمِدُونَ
53:61
Indulging in pleasantries? - Ahmed Ali (English)
53:62
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩
53:62
Bow instead in adoration before God and worship Him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
