بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
53:1
وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
53:1
By the Star when it goes down,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:2
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
53:2
Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:3
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ
53:3
Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:4
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ
53:4
It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:5
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ
53:5
He was taught by one Mighty in Power, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:6
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ
53:6
Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:7
وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ
53:7
While he was in the highest part of the horizon: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:8
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
53:8
Then he approached and came closer, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:9
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
53:9
And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:10
فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ
53:10
So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:11
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
53:11
The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:12
أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
53:12
Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:13
وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
53:13
For indeed he saw him at a second descent, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:14
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:14
Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:15
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ
53:15
Near it is the Garden of Abode. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:16
إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ
53:16
Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:17
مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
53:17
(His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:18
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ
53:18
For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:19
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ
53:19
Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:20
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ
53:20
And another, the third (goddess), Manat? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:21
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:21
What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:22
تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ
53:22
Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:23
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
53:23
These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:24
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
53:24
Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:25
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:25
But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:26
۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
53:26
How many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:27
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:27
Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:28
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ ۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا
53:28
But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:29
فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
53:29
Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:30
ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ
53:30
That is as far as knowledge will reach them. Verily thy Lord knoweth best those who stray from His Path, and He knoweth best those who receive guidance. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:31
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى
53:31
Yea, to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: so that He rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and He rewards those who do good, with what is best. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:32
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
53:32
Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only (falling into) small faults,- verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, And when ye are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:33
أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ
53:33
Seest thou one who turns back, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:34
وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
53:34
Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:35
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
53:35
What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:36
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
53:36
Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:37
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ
53:37
And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:38
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ
53:38
Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:39
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
53:39
That man can have nothing but what he strives for; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:40
وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ
53:40
That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:41
ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ
53:41
Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:42
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ
53:42
That to thy Lord is the final Goal; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:43
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
53:43
That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:44
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا
53:44
That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
53:45
That He did create in pairs,- male and female, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:46
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ
53:46
From a seed when lodged (in its place); - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ
53:47
That He hath promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead); - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ
53:48
That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ
53:49
That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star); - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ
53:50
And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:51
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ
53:51
And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:52
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ
53:52
And before them, the people of Noah, for that they were (all) most unjust and most insolent transgressors, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:53
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ
53:53
And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
53:54
So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:55
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
53:55
Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:56
هَـٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ
53:56
This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلْـَٔازِفَةُ
53:57
The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:58
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
53:58
No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:59
أَفَمِنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
53:59
Do ye then wonder at this recital? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:60
وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ
53:60
And will ye laugh and not weep,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:61
وَأَنتُمْ سَـٰمِدُونَ
53:61
Wasting your time in vanities? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
53:62
فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ۩
53:62
But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
