Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? - A. J. Arberry (English)

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6
no food for them but cactus thorn - A. J. Arberry (English)

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7
unfattening, unappeasing hunger. - A. J. Arberry (English)

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً

فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ

فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ

وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ

وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

What, do they not consider how the camel was created, - A. J. Arberry (English)

وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18
how heaven was lifted up, - A. J. Arberry (English)

وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ

وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ

Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; - A. J. Arberry (English)

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ

thou art not charged to oversee them. - A. J. Arberry (English)

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23
But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, - A. J. Arberry (English)

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24
God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. - A. J. Arberry (English)

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25
Truly, to Us is their return; - A. J. Arberry (English)

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
