Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1
Has there come to you the news of the overwhelming? - Talal Itani (English)
88:2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2
Faces on that Day will be shamed. - Talal Itani (English)
88:3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3
Laboring and exhausted. - Talal Itani (English)
88:4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4
Roasting in a scorching Fire. - Talal Itani (English)
88:5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5
Given to drink from a flaming spring. - Talal Itani (English)
88:6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6
They will have no food except thorns. - Talal Itani (English)
88:7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7
That neither nourishes, nor satisfies hunger. - Talal Itani (English)
88:8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8
Faces on that Day will be joyful. - Talal Itani (English)

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9
Satisfied with their endeavor. - Talal Itani (English)
88:10
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10
In a lofty Garden. - Talal Itani (English)
88:11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11
In it you will hear no nonsense. - Talal Itani (English)

فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12
In it is a flowing spring. - Talal Itani (English)
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13
In it are raised beds. - Talal Itani (English)
88:14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14
And cups set in place. - Talal Itani (English)
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15
And cushions set in rows. - Talal Itani (English)
88:16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16
And carpets spread around. - Talal Itani (English)
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17
Do they not look at the camels—how they are created? - Talal Itani (English)
88:18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18
And at the sky—how it is raised? - Talal Itani (English)
88:19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19
And at the mountains—how they are installed? - Talal Itani (English)
88:20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20
And at the earth—how it is spread out? - Talal Itani (English)
88:21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21
So remind. You are only a reminder. - Talal Itani (English)
88:22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22
You have no control over them. - Talal Itani (English)
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23
But whoever turns away and disbelieves. - Talal Itani (English)
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24
God will punish him with the greatest punishment. - Talal Itani (English)
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25
To Us is their return. - Talal Itani (English)
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26
Then upon Us rests their reckoning. - Talal Itani (English)
