بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2
Many faces will be contrite on that day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3
Labouring, wearied out, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4
Burning in the scorching fire, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5
Given water from the boiling spring to drink. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6
They will have no food except bitter thorn, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7
Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8
Many faces will be joyous on that day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:9
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9
Well-pleased with their endeavour, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:10
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10
In the high empyrean, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11
Never hearing idle talk. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12
There is a stream of running water in it; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13
And within it are couches placed on high, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14
Goblets set, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15
Cushions arranged, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16
And rich carpets spread. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17
Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18
And the heavens, how it was raised high; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19
And the mountains, how they were fixed; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20
And the earth, how it was spread out? - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21
Remind them; you are surely a reminder. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22
You are not a warden over them, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23
Other than him who turns his back and denies, - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24
In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25
To Us is surely their returning; - Ahmed Ali (English)
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26
Ours is surely then to reckon with them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
