Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2
On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3
troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4
They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5
and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6
They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7
which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8
However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9
and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10
They will live in an exalted garden - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11
wherein they will not hear any vain talk. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12
Therein will be a flowing spring, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13
raised couches, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14
well arranged goblets, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15
well-placed cushions, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16
and well spread carpets. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17
Have they not looked at how the camel is created, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18
how the heavens are raised up high, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19
how the mountains are set firm, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20
and how the earth is spread out? - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21
(Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22
You do not have full control over them. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23
However, those who turn away and disbelieve, - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24
God will punish them with the greatest torment. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25
To Us they will all return. - Muhammad Sarwar (English)
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26
