بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
88:1
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ
88:1
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ
88:2
Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
88:3
Labouring (hard), weary,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
88:4
The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ
88:5
The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
88:6
No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ
88:7
Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
88:8
(Other) faces that Day will be joyful, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:9
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
88:9
Pleased with their striving,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:10
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
88:10
In a Garden on high, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً
88:11
Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
88:12
Therein will be a bubbling spring: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
88:13
Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
88:14
Goblets placed (ready), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
88:15
And cushions set in rows, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
88:16
And rich carpets (all) spread out. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
88:17
Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
88:18
And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
88:19
And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
88:20
And at the Earth, how it is spread out? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
88:21
Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
88:22
Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
88:23
But if any turn away and reject Allah,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ
88:24
Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ
88:25
For to Us will be their return; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
88:26
Then it will be for Us to call them to account. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
