بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
74:1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:2
قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2
arise and warn, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3
and exalt your Lord, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4
and purify your clothing, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:5
وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5
and flee from the statues! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:6
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6
Do not give, thinking to gain greater - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7
be patient unto your Lord. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8
When the Horn is blown, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:9
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9
that shall be a Harsh Day - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:10
عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10
and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:11
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11
Leave Me alone with he whom I created - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:12
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12
and designated for him ample wealth, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13
and sons that stand in witness. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:14
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14
I made things smooth and easy for him, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:15
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15
yet he is eager that I increase him. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:16
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16
Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:17
سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17
I will constrain him to a hard ascent. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:18
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18
He reflected, and then determined - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:19
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19
death seized him, how was his determining! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:20
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20
Again, death seized him, how was his determining! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:21
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21
Then he looked, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22
frowned and scowled; - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:23
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23
then he retreated and grew proud - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24
and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:25
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25
It is nothing but the word of a mortal' - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26
I will surely roast him in the Scorching. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:27
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27
What will let you know what the Scorching is like! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:28
لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28
It neither spares, nor releases, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:29
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29
and it burns the flesh. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:30
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30
Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:31
وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31
We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:32
كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32
No, by the moon! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:33
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33
By the receding night - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:34
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34
and the morning when it appears, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35
it is one of the greatest trials, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:36
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36
a warning to humans, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:37
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37
to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38
Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:39
إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39
except the Companions of the Right. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:40
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40
In Gardens they will question - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:41
عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41
concerning the sinners, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42
'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:43
قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43
They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44
and we did not feed the needy. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45
We plunged in with the plungers - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46
and belied the Day of Recompense - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47
till the certainty (death) overtook us' - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48
The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49
What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:50
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50
like startled wild donkeys - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:51
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51
fleeing before a lion? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52
Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:53
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53
No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:54
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54
No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:55
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55
So, whoever wills, will remember it. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
74:56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56
But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
