بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
74:1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:2
قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2
Arise and deliver thy warning! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3
And thy Lord do thou magnify! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4
And thy garments keep free from stain! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:5
وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5
And all abomination shun! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:6
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6
Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7
But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8
Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:9
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9
That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:10
عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10
Far from easy for those without Faith. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:11
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11
Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:12
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12
To whom I granted resources in abundance, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13
And sons to be by his side!- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:14
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14
To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:15
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15
Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:16
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16
By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:17
سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17
Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:18
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18
For he thought and he plotted;- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:19
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19
And woe to him! How he plotted!- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:20
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20
Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:21
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21
Then he looked round; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22
Then he frowned and he scowled; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:23
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23
Then he turned back and was haughty; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24
Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:25
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25
"This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26
Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:27
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27
And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:28
لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28
Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:29
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29
Darkening and changing the colour of man! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:30
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30
Over it are Nineteen. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:31
وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31
And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:32
كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32
Nay, verily: By the Moon, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:33
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33
And by the Night as it retreateth, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:34
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34
And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35
This is but one of the mighty (portents), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:36
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36
A warning to mankind,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:37
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37
To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38
Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:39
إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39
Except the Companions of the Right Hand. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:40
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40
(They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:41
عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41
And (ask) of the Sinners: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42
"What led you into Hell Fire?" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:43
قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43
They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44
"Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45
"But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46
"And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47
"Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48
Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49
Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:50
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50
As if they were affrighted asses, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:51
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51
Fleeing from a lion! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52
Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:53
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53
By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:54
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54
Nay, this surely is an admonition: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:55
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55
Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
74:56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56
But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
