بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
74:1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:2
قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2
Arise and warn, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3
Glorify your Lord, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4
Purify your inner self, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:5
وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5
And banish all trepidation. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:6
وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6
Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7
And persevere in the way of your Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8
For when the trumpet blows - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:9
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9
It will be a day of distress, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:10
عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10
Dolorous for the unbelievers. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:11
ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11
Leave him to Me whom I created alone, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:12
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12
And gave him abundant wealth - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13
And sons always present by his side, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:14
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14
And made things easy for them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:15
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15
Yet he wants that I should give him more. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:16
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16
Never. He is refractory of Our signs. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:17
سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17
I shall inflict on him hardship, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:18
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18
For he had thought and calculated. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:19
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19
May he be accursed, how he planned! - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:20
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20
May be then be accursed, how he plotted! - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:21
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21
Then he looked around, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22
And frowned and puckered his brow, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:23
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23
Then turned his back and waxed proud, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:24
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24
And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:25
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25
Nothing more than the speech of a man!" - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:26
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26
I will cast him into the fire of Hell. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:27
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27
What do you think Hell-fire is? - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:28
لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28
It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:29
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29
It glows and burns the skin. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:30
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30
Over it are nineteen (guards). - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:31
وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31
We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:32
كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32
I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:33
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33
And the night when on the wane, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:34
وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34
The morning when it is unveiled, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35
That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:36
نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36
A warning for people -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:37
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37
Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:38
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38
Every soul is pledged to what it does, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:39
إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39
Except those of the right hand - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:40
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40
Sitting in the gardens, asking - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:41
عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41
Of evil-doers: - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:42
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42
"What was it that brought you to Hell?" - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:43
قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43
They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:44
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44
And did not feed the needy, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45
And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46
And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47
Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48
So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:49
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49
Why then do they turn away from the admonition - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:50
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50
As though they were frightened asses - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:51
فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51
Fleeing from a lion? - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:52
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52
In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:53
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53
By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:54
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54
Never so, as this is a reminder. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:55
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55
Let him then who heeds remember it. - Ahmed Ali (English)
74:56
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56
But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving - Ahmed Ali (English)
