74 Al-Muddaththir ٱلْمُدَّثِّر

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

74:1 يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ
74:1 O you Enrobed one. - Talal Itani (English)

74:2 قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ
74:2 Arise and warn. - Talal Itani (English)

74:3 وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ
74:3 And magnify your Lord. - Talal Itani (English)

74:4 وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ
74:4 And purify your clothes. - Talal Itani (English)

74:5 وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ
74:5 And abandon abominations. - Talal Itani (English)

74:6 وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ
74:6 And show no favor seeking gain. - Talal Itani (English)

74:7 وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ
74:7 And be constant for your Lord. - Talal Itani (English)

74:8 فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ
74:8 When the Trumpet is blown. - Talal Itani (English)

74:9 فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ
74:9 That Day will be a difficult day. - Talal Itani (English)

74:10 عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ
74:10 For the disbelievers—not easy. - Talal Itani (English)

74:11 ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا
74:11 Leave Me to him whom I created alone. - Talal Itani (English)

74:12 وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا
74:12 And gave him vast wealth. - Talal Itani (English)

74:13 وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا
74:13 And children as witnesses. - Talal Itani (English)

74:14 وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا
74:14 And smoothed things for him. - Talal Itani (English)

74:15 ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ
74:15 Then he wants Me to add yet more! - Talal Itani (English)

74:16 كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا
74:16 By no means! He was stubborn towards Our revelations. - Talal Itani (English)

74:17 سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
74:17 I will exhaust him increasingly. - Talal Itani (English)

74:18 إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
74:18 He thought and analyzed. - Talal Itani (English)

74:19 فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:19 May he perish, how he analyzed. - Talal Itani (English)

74:20 ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ
74:20 Again: may he perish, how he analyzed. - Talal Itani (English)

74:21 ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
74:21 Then he looked. - Talal Itani (English)

74:22 ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
74:22 Then he frowned and whined. - Talal Itani (English)

74:23 ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
74:23 Then he turned back and was proud. - Talal Itani (English)

74:24 فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
74:24 And said, “This is nothing but magic from the past. - Talal Itani (English)

74:25 إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ
74:25 This is nothing but the word of a mortal.” - Talal Itani (English)

74:26 سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ
74:26 I will roast him in Saqar. - Talal Itani (English)

74:27 وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
74:27 But what will explain to you what Saqar is? - Talal Itani (English)

74:28 لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ
74:28 It neither leaves, nor spares. - Talal Itani (English)

74:29 لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:29 It scorches the flesh. - Talal Itani (English)

74:30 عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
74:30 Over it are Nineteen. - Talal Itani (English)

74:31 وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَـٰنًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ
74:31 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and caused their number to be a stumbling block for those who disbelieve; so that those given the Scripture may attain certainty; and those who believe may increase in faith; and those given the Scripture and the believers may not doubt; and those in whose hearts is sickness and the unbelievers may say, “What did God intend by this parable?” Thus God leads astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. This is nothing but a reminder for the mortals. - Talal Itani (English)

74:32 كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ
74:32 Nay! By the moon. - Talal Itani (English)

74:33 وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ
74:33 And the night as it retreats. - Talal Itani (English)

74:34 وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ
74:34 And the morning as it lights up. - Talal Itani (English)

74:35 إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ
74:35 It is one of the greatest. - Talal Itani (English)

74:36 نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ
74:36 A warning to the mortals. - Talal Itani (English)

74:37 لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ
74:37 To whomever among you wishes to advance, or regress. - Talal Itani (English)

74:38 كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ
74:38 Every soul is hostage to what it has earned. - Talal Itani (English)

74:39 إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ
74:39 Except for those on the Right. - Talal Itani (English)

74:40 فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
74:40 In Gardens, inquiring. - Talal Itani (English)

74:41 عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
74:41 About the guilty. - Talal Itani (English)

74:42 مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ
74:42 “What drove you into Saqar?” - Talal Itani (English)

74:43 قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
74:43 They will say, “We were not of those who prayed. - Talal Itani (English)

74:44 وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ
74:44 Nor did we feed the destitute. - Talal Itani (English)

74:45 وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ
74:45 And we used to indulge with those who indulge. - Talal Itani (English)

74:46 وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
74:46 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment. - Talal Itani (English)

74:47 حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ
74:47 Until the Inevitable came upon us.” - Talal Itani (English)

74:48 فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
74:48 But the intercession of intercessors will not help them. - Talal Itani (English)

74:49 فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ
74:49 Why are they turning away from the Reminder? - Talal Itani (English)

74:50 كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ
74:50 As though they were panicked donkeys. - Talal Itani (English)

74:51 فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ
74:51 Fleeing from a lion? - Talal Itani (English)

74:52 بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً
74:52 Yet every one of them desires to be given scrolls unrolled. - Talal Itani (English)

74:53 كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ
74:53 No indeed! But they do not fear the Hereafter. - Talal Itani (English)

74:54 كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ
74:54 Nevertheless, it is a reminder. - Talal Itani (English)

74:55 فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
74:55 So whoever wills, shall remember it. - Talal Itani (English)

74:56 وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ
74:56 But they will not remember, unless God wills. He is the Source of Righteousness, and the Source of Forgiveness. - Talal Itani (English)
