Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
90:1
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
90:1
Nay! I swear by this city. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:2
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
90:2
And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:3
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
90:3
And the begetter and whom he begot. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:4
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
90:4
Certainly We have created man to be in distress. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:5
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ
90:5
Does he think that no one has power over him? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:6
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
90:6
He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:7
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
90:7
Does he think that no one sees him? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:8
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ
90:8
Have We not given him two eyes, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:9
وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
90:9
And a tongue and two lips, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:10
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ
90:10
And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:11
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ
90:11
But he would not attempt the uphill road, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:12
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
90:12
And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
90:13
(It is) the setting free of a slave, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:14
أَوْ إِطْعَـٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ
90:14
Or the giving of food in a day of hunger - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:15
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
90:15
To an orphan, having relationship, - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:16
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
90:16
Or to the poor man lying in the dust. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ
90:17
Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:18
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
90:18
These are the people of the right hand. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
90:19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
90:19
And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)

عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ
90:20
On them is fire closed over. - Mohammad Habib Shakir (English)
