Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
90:1
لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
90:1
I swear by this town, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:2
وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ
90:2
as you reside in this town; - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:3
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
90:3
[and] by the father and him whom he begot: - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:4
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ
90:4
certainly We created man in travail. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:5
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ
90:5
Does he suppose that no one will ever have power over him? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:6
يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا
90:6
He says, ‘I have squandered immense wealth.’ - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:7
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
90:7
Does he suppose that no one sees him? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:8
أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ
90:8
Have We not made for him two eyes, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:9
وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ
90:9
a tongue, and two lips, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:10
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ
90:10
and shown him the two paths [of good and evil]? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:11
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ
90:11
Yet he has not embarked upon the uphill task. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:12
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
90:12
And what will show you what is the uphill task? - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
90:13
[It is] the freeing of a slave, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:14
أَوْ إِطْعَـٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ
90:14
or feeding, during days of [general] starvation, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:15
يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ
90:15
an orphan among relatives - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:16
أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ
90:16
or a needy man in desolation, - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ
90:17
while being one of those who have faith and enjoin one another to patience, and enjoin one another to compassion. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:18
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
90:18
They are the People of the Right Hand. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
90:19
But those who defy Our signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
90:20
عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ
90:20
A closed Fire will be [imposed] upon them. - Ali Quli Qarai (English)
