بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
68:1
نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ
68:1
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Noon. By the Pen and that (the angels) write,
68:2
مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ
68:2
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
you are not, because of the favor of your Lord, mad.
68:3
وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ
68:3
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Indeed, there is an unfailing wage for you.
68:4
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
68:4
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Surely, you (Prophet Muhammad) are of a great morality.
68:5
فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ
68:6
بِأَييِّكُمُ ٱلْمَفْتُونُ
68:7
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
68:7
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Indeed, your Lord knows very well those who strayed from His Path, and those who are guided.
68:8
فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
68:8
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Therefore, do not obey those who belie,
68:9
وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
68:9
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
they wish you would compromise, then, they would compromise.
68:10
وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ
68:11
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيمٍ
68:11
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
the backbiter who goes about slandering,
68:12
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
68:12
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
those who hinder good, the guilty aggressor,
68:13
عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
68:14
أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
68:15
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
68:15
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'They are but fairytales of the ancients'
68:16
سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْخُرْطُومِ
68:17
إِنَّا بَلَوْنَـٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ
68:17
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden who had sworn that in the morning they would reap it,
68:18
وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ
68:18
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
without adding to their swearing, (Allah willing, InshaAllah).
68:19
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ
68:19
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Then, a visitation from your Lord came down upon it while they slept,
68:20
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ
68:20
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
and in the morning it was if the garden had been reaped.
68:21
فَتَنَادَوْا۟ مُصْبِحِينَ
68:21
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
(Then) in the morning they called out to one another, saying:
68:22
أَنِ ٱغْدُوا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰرِمِينَ
68:22
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
'Come out to your tillage if you want to reap'
68:23
فَٱنطَلَقُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ
68:23
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
And so they departed, whispering to one another:
68:24
أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ
68:24
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
'No needy person shall set foot in it today'
68:25
وَغَدَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَـٰدِرِينَ
68:25
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
And they went out early, determined in their resolve.
68:26
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ
68:26
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
But when they saw it they said: 'We have surely gone astray.
68:27
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
68:28
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ
68:28
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
(Whereupon) the best among them said: 'Did I not say to you to exalt (Allah)'
68:29
قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ
68:29
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
'Exaltations to Allah, our Lord' they said, 'We were truly harmdoers'
68:30
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَـٰوَمُونَ
68:31
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَـٰغِينَ
68:31
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
They said 'Woe to us, truly we were insolent'
68:32
عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ
68:32
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
It may be that our Lord will give us better than it in exchange. To our Lord we humbly turn'
68:33
كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ
68:33
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Such was their punishment. But the punishment of the Everlasting Life is much greater, if they but knew.
68:34
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
68:34
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Surely, the cautious shall have Gardens of Bliss with their Lord.
68:35
أَفَنَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
68:35
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
What, shall We make those who are submissive like the wrongdoers?
68:36
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
68:36
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
What is the matter with you then, how do you judge?
68:37
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَـٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ
68:37
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Or, have you a Book from which you study
68:38
إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ
68:38
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
surely in it you shall have whatever you choose!
68:39
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَـٰنٌ عَلَيْنَا بَـٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
68:39
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Or, have you an oath from Us that stretches to the Day of Resurrection (if so) you shall surely have what you judge!
68:40
سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
68:40
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Ask them, which of them will guarantee that!
68:41
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ
68:41
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Or, do they have associates? Then let them bring their associates, if what they say is true!
68:42
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
68:42
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
On the Day when the leg shall be bared, and they are ordered to prostrate themselves, they will be unable.
68:43
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَـٰلِمُونَ
68:43
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Their eyes will be humbled, and humiliation shall spread over them for they were already ordered to prostrate themselves when they were undiminished.
68:44
فَذَرْنِى وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
68:44
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Therefore, leave Me with he who belied this discourse. We will draw them on little by little from where they do not know.
68:45
وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ
68:45
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
I shall respite them, My stratagem is firm.
68:46
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
68:46
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Or, do you ask them for a wage, so that they are burdened withdebt?
68:47
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
68:47
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Or, is the Unseen with them, and they are writing it down!
68:48
فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ ٱلْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ
68:48
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
So be patient with the judgement of your Lord and do not be like the Companion of the Whale (Jonah), when he called out choking inwardly.
68:49
لَّوْلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
68:49
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
Had the favor of his Lord not come upon him, he would have been blamed, cast upon the shore.
68:50
فَٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
68:50
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
But his Lord had chosen him and He placed him among the righteous.
68:51
وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌ
68:51
Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English) :
When the unbelievers hear the Reminder, they nearly strike you down with their glances, and say: 'Surely, he is mad'
68:52
وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
68:52
