بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

68:1 نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ
68:1 NUN. I CALL to witness the pen and what they inscribe, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:2 مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ
68:2 You are not demented by the grace of your Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:3 وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ
68:3 There is surely reward unending for you, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:4 وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
68:4 For you are verily born of sublime nature. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:5 فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ
68:5 So you will see, and they will realise, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:6 بِأَييِّكُمُ ٱلْمَفْتُونُ
68:6 Who is distracted. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:7 إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ
68:7 Verily your Lord knows those who have gone astray from His path, and He knows those who are guided on the way. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:8 فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
68:8 So do not comply with those who deny: - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:9 وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
68:9 They only want that you should relent, so that they may come to terms. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:10 وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ
68:10 Do not heed a contemptible swearer, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:11 هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيمٍ
68:11 Or backbiter, calumniator, slanderer, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:12 مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
68:12 Who hinders men from (doing) good, the transgressor, the iniquitous, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:13 عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
68:13 Crude, and above all, mean and infamous, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:14 أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
68:14 Simply because he possesses wealth and children. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:15 إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
68:15 When you recite Our revelations to him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:16 سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْخُرْطُومِ
68:16 We shall brand him on the muzzle. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:17 إِنَّا بَلَوْنَـٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ
68:17 We have tried you as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed to gather the fruits in the morning - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:18 وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ
68:18 But did not add: "If God may please." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:19 فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ
68:19 Then a calamity from your Lord fell upon it, but they remained fast asleep. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:20 فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ
68:20 So by the morning it seemed as though picked clean. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:21 فَتَنَادَوْا۟ مُصْبِحِينَ
68:21 At daybreak they called to each other: - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:22 أَنِ ٱغْدُوا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰرِمِينَ
68:22 "If you want to gather the fruits, let us go early to the plantation." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:23 فَٱنطَلَقُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَتَخَـٰفَتُونَ
68:23 So they departed, talking in low voices: - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:24 أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ
68:24 "Let no needy person come to you within it today." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:25 وَغَدَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَـٰدِرِينَ
68:25 They left early in the morning bent on this purpose. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:26 فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لَضَآلُّونَ
68:26 When they saw (and did not recognise it) they said: "Surely we have lost the way. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:27 بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
68:27 No. In fact we have been deprived of it." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:28 قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ
68:28 One who was temperate among them, said: "Did I not say: 'Why don't you priase God?'" - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:29 قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ
68:29 "Glory to our Lord," they said; we were really in the wrong." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:30 فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَـٰوَمُونَ
68:30 Then they started blaming one another, - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:31 قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَـٰغِينَ
68:31 Saying: "Alas the woe, we were iniquitous. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:32 عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَٰغِبُونَ
68:32 Maybe our Lord will give us better than this. We turn to our Lord in supplication." - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:33 كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ
68:33 Such is Our chastisement; and the punishment of the Hereafter will be greater, if only they knew! - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:34 إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
68:34 For those who fear God there are pleasure gardens with their Lord. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:35 أَفَنَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ كَٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
68:35 Should We treat those who submit and obey in the same way as those who are culpable? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:36 مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
68:36 What has come upon you that you judge in such a wise? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:37 أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَـٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ
68:37 Or have you a Book in which you read - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:38 إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ
68:38 That you can surely have whatever you choose? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:39 أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَـٰنٌ عَلَيْنَا بَـٰلِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
68:39 Or have you taken a binding promise from Us which would hold till the Day of Judgement, that you will get whatever you demand? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:40 سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُم بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
68:40 Ask them: "Which of you is able to vouch for this?" - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:41 أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ
68:41 Or have they any partners? Let them bring their partners then, if what they say is true. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:42 يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
68:42 On the day the great calamity befalls, and they are called to bow in homage, they will not be able to do so. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:43 خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَـٰلِمُونَ
68:43 Lowered will be their eyes, disgrace overwhelming them. They had indeed been called to bow in homage when they were free of blame. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:44 فَذَرْنِى وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
68:44 So leave those who deny this Discourse to Me. We shall lead them step by step to (ruin) in a way they will not know. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:45 وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ
68:45 Yet I will give them respite: Surely My plan is compact. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:46 أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
68:46 Do you ask for any compensation from them that they are burdened with want? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:47 أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
68:47 Or do they have knowledge of the unknown which they copy down? - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:48 فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ ٱلْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ
68:48 So wait with patience for the judgement of your Lord, and do not be like (onah) of the fish who called (to his Lord) when he was choked with anger. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:49 لَّوْلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
68:49 Had it not been for a favour from his Lord he would have been cast blame-worthy on a barren plain. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:50 فَٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
68:50 Then his Lord chose him and placed him among the upright. - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:51 وَإِن يَكَادُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا۟ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُۥ لَمَجْنُونٌ
68:51 But the unbelievers would like to stare you out of balance when they hear the warning, and say: "Surely he is possessed;" - Ahmed Ali (English)

68:52 وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
68:52 Whilst it is no more than reminder for the people of the world. - Ahmed Ali (English)
