بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
70:1
سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ
70:1
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:2
لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ
70:2
Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:3
مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ
70:3
From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:4
تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
70:4
To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:5
فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا
70:5
So persevere with becoming patience. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:6
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا
70:6
They surely take it to be far away, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:7
وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا
70:7
But We see it very near. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:8
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ
70:8
The day the sky becomes like molten brass, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:9
وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ
70:9
The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:10
وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا
70:10
And no friend inquires after friend - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:11
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ
70:11
Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:12
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
70:12
His wife and his brother, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:13
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ
70:13
And his family who had stood by him, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:14
وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
70:14
And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:15
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
70:15
But never. It is pure white flame - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:16
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ
70:16
That would skin the scalp. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:17
تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
70:17
It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:18
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ
70:18
Who amasses and then hoards. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:19
۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
70:19
Surely man is greedy by nature. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:20
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا
70:20
If evil befalls him he is perturbed; - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:21
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا
70:21
If good comes to him he holds back his hand, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:22
إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ
70:22
Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:23
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ
70:23
Who persevere in devotion, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:24
وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ
70:24
In whose wealth a due share is included - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:25
لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ
70:25
For the needy and those dispossessed, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:26
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
70:26
And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:27
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ
70:27
And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:28
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ
70:28
Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:29
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَـٰفِظُونَ
70:29
And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:30
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
70:30
Are free of blame, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:31
فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ
70:31
But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:32
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ
70:32
And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:33
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ
70:33
Who uphold their testimonies, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:34
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
70:34
And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:35
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ
70:35
They will live in gardens with honour. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:36
فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
70:36
What is the matter with unbelievers that they stare at you with fixed gazes and hasten towards you - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:37
عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
70:37
In crowds, right and left? - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:38
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ
70:38
Does every one of them wish to enter the garden of tranquility? - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:39
كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
70:39
Never so. We have created them from what they know. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:40
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ
70:40
So I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:41
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
70:41
To bring better people than they in their place; and they will not be able to thwart Us. - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:42
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ
70:42
So leave them to their vain disputes and amusement till they meet their day (of reckoning) promised them, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:43
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ
70:43
The day when they will come out of their graves in all haste as though rushing to their altars, - Ahmed Ali (English)
70:44
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ
70:44
Eyes lowered, shame attending. That is the day they have been promised! - Ahmed Ali (English)
