Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
78:1
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
78:1
About what are they asking one another? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:2
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
78:2
Is it about the awesome tiding - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:3
ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ
78:3
that they are in utter disagreement? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:4
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
78:4
No indeed; soon will they come to know; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:5
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ
78:5
again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:6
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا
78:6
Have We not spread the earth like a bed, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:7
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا
78:7
and fixed the mountains like pegs, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:8
وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا
78:8
and created you in pairs (as men and women), - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:9
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا
78:9
and made your sleep a means of repose, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:10
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا
78:10
and made the night a covering, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:11
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا
78:11
and made the day to seek livelihood, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:12
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا
78:12
and built above you seven strong firmaments, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:13
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا
78:13
and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:14
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا
78:14
and sent down abundant water from the clouds - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:15
لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا
78:15
so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:16
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا
78:16
and gardens dense with foliage? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:17
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا
78:17
Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:18
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا
78:18
the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:19
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا
78:19
and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:20
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
78:20
and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:21
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا
78:21
Surely the Hell is an ambush, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:22
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا
78:22
a resort for the rebellious; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:23
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا
78:23
therein they shall abide for ages, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:24
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا
78:24
they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:25
إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا
78:25
save boiling water and wash of the wounds; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:26
جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا
78:26
a befitting recompense for their deeds. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:27
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا
78:27
For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:28
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا
78:28
and roundly denied Our Signs as false. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:29
وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا
78:29
And everything have We recorded in a Book. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:30
فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
78:30
So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:31
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
78:31
Surely the state of triumph awaits the God-fearing: - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:32
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا
78:32
gardens and vineyards, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:33
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا
78:33
and youthful maidens of like age, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:34
وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا
78:34
and an overflowing cup. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:35
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا
78:35
Therein they shall hear no idle talk, nor any falsehood; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:36
جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا
78:36
a recompense from your Lord and an ample reward - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:37
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا
78:37
from the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of that which is between them; the Most Merciful Lord before Whom none dare utter a word. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:38
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا
78:38
The Day when the Spirit and the angels are ranged row on row. None shall speak save he whom the Merciful Lord will permit; and he too will speak what is right. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:39
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
78:39
That Day is sure to come. So let him who will seek a resort with his Lord. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
78:40
إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا
78:40
Lo! We warn you of a chastisement near at hand; the Day when a man will look on what his own hands have sent forth, and the unbelievers shall say: “Oh would that I were utter dust.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
