بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
80:1
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
80:1
(The Prophet) frowned and turned away, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:2
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ
80:2
Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:3
وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
80:3
But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:4
أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ
80:4
Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:5
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
80:5
As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:6
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
80:6
To him dost thou attend; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:7
وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
80:7
Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:8
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ
80:8
But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:9
وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ
80:9
And with fear (in his heart), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:10
فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
80:10
Of him wast thou unmindful. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:11
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ
80:11
By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:12
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
80:12
Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:13
فِى صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ
80:13
(It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:14
مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ
80:14
Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:15
بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍ
80:15
(Written) by the hands of scribes- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:16
كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍ
80:16
Honourable and Pious and Just. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:17
قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ
80:17
Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:18
مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
80:18
From what stuff hath He created him? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:19
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
80:19
From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:20
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
80:20
Then doth He make His path smooth for him; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:21
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ
80:21
Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:22
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
80:22
Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:23
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
80:23
By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:24
فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
80:24
Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:25
أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّا
80:25
For that We pour forth water in abundance, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:26
ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّا
80:26
And We split the earth in fragments, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:27
فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا
80:27
And produce therein corn, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:28
وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا
80:28
And Grapes and nutritious plants, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:29
وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا
80:29
And Olives and Dates, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:30
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًا
80:30
And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:31
وَفَـٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا
80:31
And fruits and fodder,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:32
مَّتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ
80:32
For use and convenience to you and your cattle. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:33
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
80:33
At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:34
يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ
80:34
That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:35
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
80:35
And from his mother and his father, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:36
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
80:36
And from his wife and his children. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:37
لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ
80:37
Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:38
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ
80:38
Some faces that Day will be beaming, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:39
ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ
80:39
Laughing, rejoicing. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:40
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ
80:40
And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:41
تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
80:41
Blackness will cover them: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
80:42
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ
80:42
Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
