Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
80:1
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
80:1
He frowned and turned away - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:2
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ
80:2
that the blind man came to him. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:3
وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
80:3
How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:4
أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ
80:4
or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:5
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
80:5
Now he who waxes indifferent, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:6
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
80:6
you attend to him, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:7
وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
80:7
though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:8
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ
80:8
But he who comes to you running, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:9
وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ
80:9
and fears (Allah), - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:10
فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
80:10
you pay no heed to him. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:11
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ
80:11
No indeed; this is only a Reminder. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:12
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
80:12
So whoso wills may give heed to it. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:13
فِى صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ
80:13
It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:14
مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ
80:14
most exalted and purified, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:15
بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍ
80:15
borne by the hands of scribes, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:16
كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍ
80:16
noble and purified. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:17
قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ
80:17
Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:18
مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
80:18
Out of what did Allah create him? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:19
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
80:19
Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:20
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
80:20
and then made the course of life easy for him, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:21
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ
80:21
then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:22
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
80:22
and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:23
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
80:23
Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:24
فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
80:24
So let man just consider his food: - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:25
أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّا
80:25
We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:26
ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّا
80:26
and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:27
فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا
80:27
then caused the grain to grow out of it, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:28
وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا
80:28
together with grapes and vegetables, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:29
وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا
80:29
and olives and palms, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:30
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًا
80:30
and dense orchards, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:31
وَفَـٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا
80:31
and fruits and pastures – - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:32
مَّتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ
80:32
all this as a provision for you and your cattle. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:33
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
80:33
But when the deafening cry shall be sounded - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:34
يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ
80:34
on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:35
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
80:35
and his mother and his father; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:36
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
80:36
and his consort and his children; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:37
لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ
80:37
on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:38
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ
80:38
Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:39
ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ
80:39
and be cheerful and joyous. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:40
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ
80:40
Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:41
تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
80:41
enveloped by darkness. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
80:42
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ
80:42
These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
