Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1
When the inevitable event takes place, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:2
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2
and there can be no denying its happening, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3
some shall be abased and others exalted. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4
When the earth is shaken violently, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5
and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6
and become like scattered dust particles, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7
[on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8
Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9
Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10
The third to the fore shall be the foremost. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11
They shall be the nearest to God. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12
They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13
a large group of the early believers, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14
and a lesser number from the later generations. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15
Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16
reclining on them facing each other; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17
they will be waited on by ageless youths - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18
carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19
neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20
along with fruits of their choice; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21
and the meat of any bird that they may desire; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22
and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23
like the pearls in their shells: - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24
shall be their recompense for their deeds. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25
They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26
only the words of peace and tranquillity. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27
Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28
They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29
and clustered bananas, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30
and spreading shade - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:31
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31
and flowing water, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:32
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32
and fruits in abundance, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33
never-ending and unrestricted, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34
on raised couches. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35
We have created maidens perfectly - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36
and made them virgins, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37
loving companions, matching in age, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38
for those on the Right, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39
a large group of the earlier people - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:40
and a large group of those of later times. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41
Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:42
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42
They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43
and under the shadow of black smoke, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:44
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44
neither cool nor refreshing. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:45
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45
They had been affluent before, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46
and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47
and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:48
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48
And also our forefathers?" - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49
Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50
will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51
Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52
shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53
and fill your bellies with it, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54
and shall drink boiling water on top of that. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55
You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56
This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57
We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58
Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59
did you create it or did We? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60
It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61
from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62
You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:63
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63
Have you thought about what crops you plant? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64
Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65
If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:66
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66
"We are ruined, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67
nay, we are deprived [altogether]." - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68
Have you considered the water that you drink? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69
Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70
If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71
Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72
Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73
We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75
Nay, I swear by the setting of the stars -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76
and, indeed, that is a most mighty oath, if you only knew -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77
that this is indeed a noble Quran, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78
in a well-guarded preserved Book, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79
which none can touch except the purified. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80
It is a revelation sent down from the Lord of the worlds. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81
How can you regard this discourse with disdain? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82
Do you make its denial your means of livelihood? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83
Why, then, when the soul of the dying man reaches the throat, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84
and you are [at that moment] looking on [helplessly] -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85
and We are nearer to him than you, although you cannot see Us -- - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86
why, then, if you are not subject to Our command, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87
do you not cause the soul to return to him if you are truthful in your claim? - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88
But if he [the dying person] is one of those brought near to God, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89
then for him there shall be comfort and plenty and a Garden of Bliss; - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90
and if he is of those who are on the Right, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91
he will be greeted with, "Peace be to you," by those on the Right. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:92
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92
But if he is one of those who rejected [the truth] and went astray, - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93
he will be welcomed with boiling water. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94
He will burn in Hell. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95
This is indeed the indubitable truth. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
56:96
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. - Wahiduddin Khan (English)
