بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1
When the forthcoming event does occur. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2
Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3
The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4
When the earth will tremble, shivering. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5
And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6
So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7
And you will become divided into three categories. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8
So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9
And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10
And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11
It is they who are the close ones. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12
They are in Gardens of peace. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13
A large group from the earlier generations. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14
And a few from the latter. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15
On studded thrones. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16
Reclining on them, facing each other. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17
Surrounded by immortal boys. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18
Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19
Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20
And fruits that they may like. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21
And meat of birds that they may wish. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22
And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23
Like pearls safely hidden. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24
The reward for what they did. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25
They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26
Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27
And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28
Among thorn-less lote-trees. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29
And clusters of banana plants. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30
And in everlasting shade. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:31
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31
And in perpetually flowing water. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:32
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32
And plenty of fruits. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33
That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34
And raised couches. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35
We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36
So made them as maidens. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37
The beloved of their husbands, of one age. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38
For those on the right. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39
A large group from the earlier generations. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:40
And a large group from the latter. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41
And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:42
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42
In scorching wind and boiling hot water. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43
And in the shadow of a burning smoke. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:44
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44
Which is neither cool nor is for respect. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:45
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45
Indeed they were among favours before this. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46
And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47
And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:48
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48
“And also our forefathers?” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49
Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50
“They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51
Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52
You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53
Then will fill your bellies with it. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54
And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55
Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56
This is their reception on the Day of Justice. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57
It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58
So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59
Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60
It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61
In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62
And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:63
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63
So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64
Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65
If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:66
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66
That, “We have indeed been penalised!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67
“In fact, we were unfortunate!” - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68
So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69
Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70
If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71
So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72
Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73
We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74
Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75
So I swear by the setting places of the stars. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76
And that is indeed a tremendous oath, if you understand. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77
This is indeed the noble Qur’an. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78
Kept in a secure Book. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79
None may touch it, except with ablution. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80
Sent down by the Lord Of The Creation. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81
So is this the matter regarding which you laze? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82
And you make its denial your share? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83
So why was it not, when the soul reaches up to the throat, – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84
Whereas you watch at that moment! - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85
And We are nearer to him than you are, but you cannot see. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86
So why is it not, that if you are not to be repaid, – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87
That you bring it back, if you are truthful? - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88
Then if the dying one is of those having proximity, – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89
Then is relief, and flowers – and Gardens of peace. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90
And if he is of those on the right, – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91
Then upon you is the greetings of peace (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), from those on the right. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:92
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92
And if he is from the deniers, the astray, – - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93
Then his reception is the hot boiling water. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94
And a hurling into the blazing fire. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
56:95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95
This is indeed an utmost certainty. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96
Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. - Ahmed Raza Khan (English)
