بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1
WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:2
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2
Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3
Degrading (some) and exalting (others); - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4
When the earth is shaken up convulsively, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5
The mountains bruised and crushed, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6
Turned to dust, floating in the air, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7
You will become three categories: - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8
Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9
Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10
Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11
Who will be honoured - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12
In gardens of tranquility; - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13
A number of the earlier peoples, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14
And a few of later ages, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15
On couches wrought of gold, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16
Reclining face to face. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17
Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18
Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19
Unheady, uninebriating; - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20
And such fruits as they fancy, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21
Bird meats that they relish, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22
And companions with big beautiful eyes - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23
Like pearls within their shells, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24
As recompense for all they had done. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25
They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26
Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27
As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28
They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29
And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30
Lengthened shadows, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:31
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31
Gushing water, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:32
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32
And fruits numberless, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33
Unending, unforbidden, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34
And maidens incomparable. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35
We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36
And made them virginal, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37
Loving companions matched in age, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38
For those of the right hand. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39
A crowd of earlier generations - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:40
And a crowd of the later. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41
But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:42
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42
Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43
Under the shadow of thick black smoke - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:44
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44
Neither cool nor agreeable. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:45
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45
They were endowed with good things - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46
But persisted in that greater sin, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47
And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:48
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48
And so will our fathers?" - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49
Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50
Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51
Then you, the erring and the deniers, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52
Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53
Fill your bellies with it, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54
And drink over it scalding water, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55
Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56
Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57
It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58
Just consider (the semen) that you emit, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59
Do you create it, or We are its creator? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60
We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61
From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62
You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:63
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63
Just ponder over what you sow: - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64
Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65
We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:66
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66
(And say:) "We have fallen into debt; - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67
Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68
Consider the water that you drink. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69
Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70
We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71
Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72
Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73
We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74
So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75
So I call the placement of the stars to witness -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76
And this surely is great evidence if you can understand -- - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77
That this is indeed the glorious Qur'an - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78
(Inscribed) in the well-kept Book. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79
Only they can reach it who are clean (of mind). - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80
It has been revealed by the Lord of all the worlds. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81
Then why do you dissimulate this Revelation? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82
You live by calling it a lie. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83
Then how is it that when the (dying) breath is withdrawn into the throat (and rattles), - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84
And you wait for the moment (of death), - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85
We are closer to him than you, even though you cannot see? - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86
Then why, if you are not indebted (to Us for life), - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87
Can you not bring him back? (Answer) if you are truthful - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88
Then, if he is one of the honoured, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89
There will be peace and plenty, and gardens of tranquility for him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90
If he is of those of the right hand, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91
There will be the salutation by those of the right hand: "Peace on you. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:92
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92
But if he is of the deniers and the errants, - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93
The welcome will be boiling water - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94
And the roasting in Hell. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95
This is indeed the ultimate truth. - Ahmed Ali (English)
56:96
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96
Then praise your Lord, the most supreme. - Ahmed Ali (English)
