بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
56:1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1
When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:2
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2
Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ
56:3
(Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4
When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5
And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا
56:6
Becoming dust scattered abroad, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً
56:7
And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8
Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ
56:9
And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
56:10
And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11
These will be those Nearest to Allah: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
56:12
In Gardens of Bliss: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13
A number of people from those of old, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:14
And a few from those of later times. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ
56:15
(They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ
56:16
Reclining on them, facing each other. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
56:17
Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ
56:18
With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
56:19
No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20
And with fruits, any that they may select: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21
And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22
And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ
56:23
Like unto Pearls well-guarded. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24
A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25
Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا
56:26
Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:27
The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
56:28
(They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
56:29
Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
56:30
In shade long-extended, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:31
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ
56:31
By water flowing constantly, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:32
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
56:32
And fruit in abundance. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
56:33
Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
56:34
And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً
56:35
We have created (their Companions) of special creation. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36
And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
56:37
Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:38
For the Companions of the Right Hand. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39
A (goodly) number from those of old, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:40
And a (goodly) number from those of later times. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
56:41
The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:42
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42
(They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ
56:43
And in the shades of Black Smoke: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:44
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44
Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:45
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45
For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:46
And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47
And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:48
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ
56:48
"(We) and our fathers of old?" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ
56:49
Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
56:50
"All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51
"Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ
56:52
"Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ
56:53
"Then will ye fill your insides therewith, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ
56:54
"And drink Boiling Water on top of it: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ
56:55
"Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ
56:56
Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57
It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ
56:58
Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ
56:59
Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60
We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61
from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62
And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:63
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63
See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ
56:64
Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65
Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:66
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66
(Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67
"Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68
See ye the water which ye drink? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ
56:69
Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70
Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ
56:71
See ye the Fire which ye kindle? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ
56:72
Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73
We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:74
Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
56:75
Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76
And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77
That this is indeed a qur'an Most Honourable, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ
56:78
In Book well-guarded, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79
Which none shall touch but those who are clean: - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
56:80
A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ
56:81
Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82
And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ
56:83
Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
56:84
And ye the while (sit) looking on,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85
But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86
Then why do ye not,- If you are exempt from (future) account,- - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
56:87
Call back the soul, if ye are true (in the claim of independence)? - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88
Thus, then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89
(There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:90
And if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ
56:91
(For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:92
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
56:92
And if he be of those who treat (Truth) as Falsehood, who go wrong, - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93
For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94
And burning in Hell-Fire. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ
56:95
Verily, this is the Very Truth and Certainly. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
56:96
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
56:96
So celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme. - Abdullah Yusuf Ali (English)
