Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
89:1
وَٱلْفَجْرِ
89:1
By the dawn - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:2
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
89:2
and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:3
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ
89:3
by the even, and the odd, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
89:4
by the night when it journeys on! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:5
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ
89:5
Is there in that an oath for the mindful? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:6
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
89:6
Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:7
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ
89:7
of the columned (city) of Iram, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:8
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:8
the like of which was never created in the countries? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:9
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ
89:9
And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:10
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
89:10
And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:11
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:11
They were tyrants in the land - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:12
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ
89:12
and exceeded in corruption therein. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
89:13
(Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ
89:14
indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:15
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ
89:15
As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:16
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ
89:16
But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:17
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
89:17
No! But you show no good to the orphan, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:18
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
89:18
nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:19
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
89:19
and you devour the inheritance with greed, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
89:20
and you ardently love wealth. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:21
كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
89:21
No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:22
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
89:22
and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:23
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
89:23
and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:24
يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
89:24
He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:25
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:25
But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:26
nor will any bind as He binds. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:27
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
89:27
O satisfied soul, - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:28
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
89:28
return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:29
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى
89:29
Join My worshipers and - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
89:30
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى
89:30
enter My Paradise! - Hasan al-Fatih Qaribullah and Ahmad Darwish (English)
