Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
89:1
وَٱلْفَجْرِ
89:1
By the dawn, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:2
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
89:2
and the ten nights, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:3
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ
89:3
and the even and the odd, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
89:4
and by the night when it departs. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:5
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ
89:5
Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:6
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
89:6
Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:7
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ
89:7
of Iram, known for their lofty columns, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:8
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:8
the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:9
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ
89:9
And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:10
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
89:10
And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:11
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:11
who transgressed in the countries of the world - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:12
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ
89:12
spreading in them much corruption? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
89:13
Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ
89:14
Truly your Lord is ever watchful. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:15
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ
89:15
As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:16
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ
89:16
But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:17
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
89:17
But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:18
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
89:18
and do not urge one another to feed the poor, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:19
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
89:19
and greedily devour the entire inheritance, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
89:20
and love the riches, loving them ardently. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:21
كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
89:21
But no; when the earth is ground to powder, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:22
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
89:22
and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:23
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
89:23
and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:24
يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
89:24
He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:25
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:25
Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:26
and Allah will bind as none other can bind. - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:27
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
89:27
(On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:28
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
89:28
Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:29
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى
89:29
So enter among My (righteous) servants - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
89:30
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى
89:30
and enter My Paradise.” - Abul Ala Maududi (English)
