Transliteration
Wahiduddin Khan
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
89:1
وَٱلْفَجْرِ
89:1
I CALL TO witness the dawn - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:2
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
89:2
And the Ten Nights, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:3
وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ
89:3
The multiple and the one, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:4
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
89:4
The night as it advances, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:5
هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ
89:5
Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:6
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
89:6
Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:7
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ
89:7
Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:8
ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:8
The like of whom were never created in the realm; - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:9
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ
89:9
And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:10
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
89:10
And the mighty Pharaoh - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:11
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
89:11
Who terrorised the region, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:12
فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ
89:12
And multiplied corruption. - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
89:13
So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ
89:14
Your Lord is certainly in wait. - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:15
فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ
89:15
As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:16
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ
89:16
But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:17
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
89:17
No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:18
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
89:18
Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:19
وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
89:19
And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
89:20
And love wealth with all your heart. - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:21
كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
89:21
Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:22
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
89:22
And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:23
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
89:23
And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:24
يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
89:24
He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:25
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:25
None can punish as He will punish on that day, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
89:26
And none can bind as He will bind. - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:27
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
89:27
O you tranquil soul, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:28
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
89:28
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:29
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى
89:29
"Enter then among My votaries, - Ahmed Ali (English)
89:30
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى
89:30
Enter then My garden." - Ahmed Ali (English)
